The pods are not only a waste but they’re likely the culprit for why people think they have to pre rinse in the first place. Use a powdered detergent, much like this pod is about 80% composed of, and fill the prewash bin with a tablespoon of powder while you’re at it.

I've never had a dishwasher but it always seemed pointless rinsing the dishes first. Why not just go the extra wipe or two and wash them and then you don't need a dishwasher? I mean I get why people have dishwashers but not if you're going to wash the plates first.

Pro tips: Don't use dishwasher tabs. Instead, use any liquid detergent and put a small dollop straight into the dishwasher door inside or put it in the designated pre-wash chamber if you have it (this will help clean during the pre rinse cycle) in addition to filling the detergent chamber. The reason for this is that the detergent is not immediately dispersed by the dishwasher. It sits in its little compartment until the main cycle starts. Also, turn on the hot water in the kitchen sink and wait until it's hot. Then you can turn on the dishwasher. The reason things don't get rinsed off properly is that dishwasher models in Northern America take their water directly from the pipes instead of heating it up inside the dishwasher. So what happens is that the dishwasher pulls cold water to pre rinse because it is not enough time for the water to heat up in the pipes. Try it out and thank me later!

I rinse everything. I have never had an odor or a problem with my dishwasher, or anything but perfectly clean dishes. I also use liquid dishwasher detergent, not pods. I don’t use my garbage disposal much either, just for the bits that I can’t put in the trash. Never a clogged sink either. I can’t believe the crap people put in their dishwashers and their pipes.

How do you prevent the dishwasher from smelling if you don't rinse the dishes first? We typically don't use enough dishes to run it daily.

I've only had crappy dishwashers all my life, so the food is still on the dish by the end. If I have to pre-rinse anyways, I might as well hand wash, so I usually skip the dish washer altogether tbh.

Do you double as a repair tech for when the dishwasher gets clogged with grease and small debri? Do you make house calls when my dishwasher gets clogged or when the screens get clogged. If no then, I will continue to rinse.

With dishes that have sauces and stains, I put them in the empty sink and as I wash my hands when cooking, the water that falls onto them is often enough to get the sauce off. I like to do this if I know that it's going to be a while before I put on the dishwasher (breakfast dishes when I only put on the dishwasher in the evening).

I rinse them off lightly because I don’t run it everyday. It takes me about 3 days to get a full load

Okay we're not pre- washing, we're rinsing off the food to combat cockroaches overnight. That's where that started. When you live in a hot tropical climate there are certain things you do whether it makes sense to someone else or not? 😳

My Dad was an appliance repair man. We always rinse the dishes - he said it would help with the overall life of your dishwasher.

Rinse first. Not only will it guarantee your dishes will be squeaky clean, but it prevents your drain in the dishwasher from getting clogged!

I feel that rinsing my dishes before putting them in the dishwasher keeps the dishwasher cleaner because dishwashers do get dirty!

If there’s anything really caked on I will scrub and wash by hand.

I have used a Myriad of dishwashers over the years ( my own and others ), and I have found that unequivocally I have had to ALWAYS rinse the dishes first . If the dishes sit in the dishwasher for any amount of time and the food has a chance to harden or crust (even well scraped ) on the dishes, it Never comes completely off !! Doesn’t mater if I used liquid soap, powdered soap or pods !! I gave up on my dishwasher when the solenoid went out and it was going to cost almost equal to what I paid for the dishwasher, to replace it. Hand washing works Best for me. My dishwasher now is storage for my pots and pans and baking pans . 🤷🏼‍♀️
