I accidentally said more expensive when the hotels are actually cheaper at night, and of course these “secrets” won’t be the same for every hotel :)

The sheet one is a lie, at least at the hotels I use to work in (Marriott & Ritz Carlton). Sheets are changed everyday unless the guest asked not to. As are the towels.

“They only wash the sheets if there’s a visible stain” yeah no. Not at all. They get changed out with fresh sheets every time a room is turned over. And pillows don’t just get “straightened” the pillow cases get changed out as well. The only thing that doesn’t get washed every time is the comforter and the mattress pad because we simply don’t have enough to wash and replace them don’t worry though because you never really touch the comforter in an ideal situation, it’s between two sheets so you don’t touch it directly.

For those wondering I’ve worked at a Courtyard by Marriott for a year and a half now.

Also most hotels will allow you to book a room next to yours friends if its not taken already so don’t be afraid to ask

As a former housekeeper, some of this is true while some isn’t, although we will talk bad about you in your room while cleaning if you’re not a pleasant guest or smoke in your room or something

Hey I worked in housekeeping and the sheets are ALWAYS stripped from the bed. They are washed, even the towels are taken from the room to be washed. The only "secret" that you to that that is true is that the only thing that is not washed daily are the comforters. THOSE are the ones that get arranged nicely after the clean sheets are on and only washed when they're dirty or after a certain length of time that varies though.

So don't sleep on or only with the comforters put them straight on floor because who knows when the last time it washed. That's the secret to housekeeping and another fact check with someone who actually works at the places he likes to give secrets too.

Just like waiters/waitresses tips are greatly appreciated for housekeepers. One of my housekeeping friends ended up getting a $120 tip from this one person and she gave 110% when around him

Whatever his name is: Breakfast isn't free, it's included in the room cost
Me: no, really? You mean they don't give out free food? I wouldn't have guessed that.

That's why we take the towels, soaps etc because they are free

I helped my uncle strip rooms and I can tell you for certain that everything is washed atleast at holiday inn, there are sheets on everything that get washed instead of the actual pillows and blankets but unless there's Gatorade on it it's gonna be pretty sanitary

I've worked at several hotels as a housekeeping supervisor, even in 2-3 star hotels, we change all sheets as most hotels are audited a few times a year. Also as supervisors we go through each clean room and make sure things are up to standard. What you said is only true for rooms were guests are staying more than one night and even then their sheets are change twice a week even if they don't want it.

Actually, the sheet one isn’t always true because all the hotels I go to they straight out stuffed animals up and fold our blankets and straighten our stuff on the counters up so…

Oh no, with the amount I eat they are losing money at that “free breakfast”

Couple of things here from a hotel employee.

1. Housekeepers usually clean the rooms fully and change all sheets between every guest. The only thing that isn’t washed after every guest is the comforters because it’s not economical or really possible to wash them for each guest.

2. Please do not call a hotel between 5 and 6. You will probably get put on hold or just piss off the front desk agent. Check in time is usually around 3-4 which means at 5-6 guests are still checking in and we are probably very busy. Instead try calling between check out and check in times, we’re usually much less busy between 11 and 3.

3. Sometimes it’s the exact opposite, if we have last minute rooms that are unsold we will usually discount them if anyone calls asking for a room. They usually aren’t the nicest rooms in the hotel but you can sometimes find a last minute deal. It’s better to sell a room for $200 a night than to leave it empty for $350.

4. Yes tipping will actually go a long way at a lot of hotels. If you tip the front desk agents sometimes they will upgrade your room pending upgrade availability. Either way we really appreciate tips and we’ll be sure to recognize and remember guests who tip well when they ask for something.

DONT TIP YOUR WAITER! Here’s why: I went on holiday right before covid to Portugal. We stayed 11 nights and the service was amazing! But the only reason it was amazing is because they were desperate for a tip, once we tipped them they slacked and didn’t do as well, they lied and said they had ran out of items when we knew they hadn’t- an example of this is we asked for a glass of apple juice and the waiter said they had none, then the table next to us asked and got one. DONT TIP YOUR WAITER UNTIL THE LAST DAY!!!! Thank you ^^
