How To Make Soft Boiled Eggs in the Microwave

Use a microwave-safe bowl large enough to hold one egg and enough water to cover the eggs. Fill the bowl with water and microwave to a boil. While the water is coming to a boil, gently poke the egg shell a few times with a pin. Place the egg in the boiling water, cover with plate and cook for 1 minute with an 1100 watt microwave. Timing may vary depending on microwave wattage and you may have to experiment a little like we did to find the proper cooking time for your microwave. Make a note of timing for future use.

Note: My microwave is 1100 watts.

I have a 1200 Watt microwave. I started with hot water in the same measuring cup. Followed the instructions, and after 45 seconds I ended up with a warm raw egg. White was totally clear. Not sure why my results were different.

My method is using a mug, take one egg rinsed off(prevent salmonella) poke a tiny hole into the top to make an exist hole for pressure, place a cap of White Vinegar half cup of bottled water or enough to cover the egg. Set the microwave for one minute or if you hear it explode, remove it immediately to a plate or bowl. The shell will be easy to remove. The fresher the egg, the better result. I don't use salt because it lowers the boiling point and I'm on a low sodium diet. Taste the egg before you season it. I like the natural flavor. Enjoy and stay healthy.

i had no idea you could do this in the microwave. all this time ive been boiling pots of water on the stove top and setting a timer just to make one or two eggs.

Brought the water to a boil first, poked 6 holes, microwaved for 45 seconds, no eggsplosion BUT little squiggly egg strings came shooting out of the holes, the shell cracked with a lot less pressure than a regular boiled egg and it caved in on itself and peeling was really difficult even w a cold water bath first. other than that though it was cooked perfectly so I might try again and poke less holes

Is the egg initially refrigerator temperature or warmed to room temperature? What is the time for 2 eggs? Is the water initially cold, warm, or hot (from video seems like like warm at most)? Like many others commented, what is the wattage of your microwave? Have you tried different size eggs? I think you said "45 seconds" --- did I hear correctly? Was the power setting 100%? Thanks!

So... ..what is the wattage of your microwave? You'll find it on the inside of the opening somewhere. You should see in and out. Out is the wattage. Yours looks like a 1, 100 watt but I can not use the time you suggested because I don't know the wattage. In the future it's very important to know the wattage of a microwave when giving advice or producing and experiment because there are so many of them. I think poking holes in the shell was a good idea.
