I think this subject isn't talked about enough on motivational channels on YouTube - including my own. My videos are made to motivate and inspire, but the message is not to study 16 hours a day, sleep 2 hours a night, have no social life, and drive yourself to exhaustion.

That's not the point.

LIVE your life. Be happy. You're only young once. But when it IS time to study, then give it everything you have. Push yourself, seek challenges, face your fears, but ALWAYS keep your mental and physical health in check. Health comes first, above everything. And I really mean that - above everything.

I don't want to sound like I'm bragging, but as someone that has good grades, my advice is to always try to do the assignments as they come. Believe it or not, a lot of people are given for example, a math assignment due to nect week and do it a day before. DON'T DO THAT. Always try to do the work the same day it was assigned, and if it something like an essay or presentation, try to work an hour a day on it. The only way to fight procrastination is to actually sit down and do the thing. Stress comes once you have a thousand papers on your desk, two exams tomorrow for which you haven't studied, etc, don't let that happen. Every day work a little bit and eventually everything will get done

I graduated with a 4.0/4.7, got into 16 colleges w over a million dollars in scholarships (this isn't to brag; it's just for credibility). Here's the things I do that set me apart from my classmates.
1. Ask lots of questions. Being inquisitive and wanting to learn more than is required helped me to understand the material at a deeper level than my peers. Stay after class to speak with your teacher about your personal interests in their field. They will respect you for this and it will feed your brain. Good students can answer multiple choice questions. Great students would prefer to take a written exam and would be able to write pages on a historical event's influence on modern culture, not just recite dates.
2. Take tons of notes on everything. Writing pages of notes during class allows you to cut down study time later. It engrains things into your brain much better and gives you a point of reference. Your notes are more valuable than your textbook in most instances.
3. Be grateful and give back. I was always the only student to say thank you to the teacher and ask if I could help with anything. This goes along with the next point.
4. Say yes! Go above and beyond. If a club needs a secretary or a volunteer to lead a project, do it! Lots of people act like they have too much on their plate, but honestly, I think most of us could take on more clubs, more classes, and more sports. I was always doing as many of those things as I was allowed to. If no one else volunteers to answer a question or something, do it yourself. Raise your hand in class so much that the teacher never wants to call on you anymore.
5. Don't get in the mindset of "I'm not good at x class, so I won't take it." You're only limiting yourself when you think that stuff. I got second in a huge engineering competition against nationally ranked schools with 6k students on a team of homeschool students with less than the maximum number of students and no engineering experience. You'll surprise yourself if you just go for it.
6. Stop worrying about what others think of you. If someone calls you a try-hard, its probably because they arent trying hard enough. The people who answer questions in class end up with higher marks, better letters of recommendation, and more opportunities. The people who make fun of others for "doing to much" end up in a mediocre job with a mediocre life, while the people that get involved, ask questions, and study are the ones that will end up at their dream school and working their dream job.
7. Surround yourself with like-minded people. I wasn't able to do this much in high school because I went to a small school, but now, as a college student, its so refreshing and energizing to meet people who want to talk about their goals. Get friends that want to have fun with you, but also value their career/education and aren't willing to jeopardize that. I just made a friend and I was able to talk about our career goals and academic interests for an hour, and then planned to go to a concert together as long as it doesn't get in the way of our academics. You don't know what you're missing until you get in a room of people equally as passionate about success in your field of interest as you are.
8. Try to get 8 hours of sleep, and don't let yourself sleep through the day even if you're up at late. Even if youre going to bed at 4am and getting only 7 hours of sleep, its a breeding ground for laziness and being unproductive. You'll miss meals, have a harder time getting your errands done if businesses are closed when you're awake, and will stay in bed more, even if you're awake in bed. I still struggle with this if I don't have classes or work, but try to make a habit of not staying up too late. People respect you, your studies/job, and your time more when you're able to wake up at 9am.
9. Just start the assignment. A 5 page paper sounds like a lot until you start writing and realize your opening paragraph is going to take up a whole page. Schoolwork is daunting to start but once you get started, it's never as bad as you think.
10. Be passionate about what you're doing! This is much easier said than done, but I did the best in classes where I was excited to take the exam. Don't just skip over classes you aren't as good at, but pursue something you're truly interested in. If you can, relate your more boring classes and assignments to things you are interested in. I had a hyper fixation on a certain disease and was able to incorporate it into plenty of projects throughout middle and high school, and would consider myself an expert on it by now. Your passion really shows in your work (I got into the top 2 programs for my major off of an essay I wrote very last minute but was more passionate about than any of my other essays.)

This was kinda long and I have to say that some of these are harder than others. I have always been inquisitive and haven't really cared what people think, but I struggle with #8 and 9 quite a bit. Take it step by step and try to make clear goals. And remember, this is probably out of your comfort zone, which is a good thing! You can't grow if your life feels stagnant. Push yourself! You've got this and we can endure much more than we think.

One thing I myself have noticed being a straight A student is most people who get good grades don’t always study all the time and aren’t obsessed with school all the time. We love normal lives too. However, we are willing to work hard and do stuff we don’t like to do. Like it might be tempting to skip a class and sleep/do other things or not pay attention. But most people who do good in school always do the hard work first so they can relax later without having it ruined by knowing you have stuff to do. Always do the hardest work first, even if you don’t want to!

One thing which is very important to get straight A's according to my experience is to study daily and not to pile up work for another day... it's okay to feel demotivated sometimes but remember to enjoy ur life and the process of studying cause u can't force urself to study which you don't like or don't want... don't take pressure and most imp. never brag about it ...hope u like 👍

As someone with a 4.3 g.p.a. + offices in multiple extracurriculars + sports, I will tell you there is no easy way to get good grades or to balance work and fun. You just have to work and do it as well as you can. If you can't manage the doing, you won't be able to get the grades you want or all your assignments done.

Tips:
Do homework whenever you have free time. If you're going to be waiting in line or stuck somewhere for an hour or so, study. I did most of my college entrance essays in lines at an amusement park (and got into everyone I wanted).
Find someone with good grades you get along with. Whenever I don't understand a concept or homework I consult my friend and vice versa. We get higher scores because of this.
Keep a planner and schedule when you will do things (not just the due date). I am a procrastinator and as a solution, I schedule when I will do an assignment. This way I prepare myself for the idea of work. The more prepared and aware I am, the easier it is to start, and once you start you most likely finish.

Some advice. Good grades aren't the end all be all. They are nice and passing grades are needed for schooling, but they don't matter past that. Schooling isn't everyone's forte. It is not a measurement of intelligence but a measurement of one's memory retention and application. Don't judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree.

Self-discipline is very important ✅✅ We don't feel motivated every single day but if you have that discipline then you will put in the hard work regardless.

I think another big habit of 4.0 gpa students is not viewing school as a chore, viewing it as learning. At least from my experiences, I can vouch that many of the high achieving students will often ask “Why?”. They will ask questions without fear to understand the subject material. If the professor is good and can explain the “why”, often times, students will thrive.

7 daily habits:

1) Enter Into a Flow State: Being completely in an activity for its own sake. The ego falls away. Time flies. Your whole being is involved, and you are using your skills to the utmost. You are completely focused on the task ahead. You forget about yourself and others. You feel happy and in control, become creative and productive.
Train yourself to reach this flow state every time you are about to study. Find a quiet study place. Clear away all distractions and turn off notifications.

2) A productive daily routine. It needs to fit around your lifestyle. It reduces the need to make decisions throughout the day and it enables you to know what task you need to do that day.

3) Learn from others. Surround yourself with great people. “you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with”. “Show me your friends and I will show you your future”. Learn from them, and if you can’t meet them IRL, connect with them online or listen to their podcasts, watch videos and read books. There are no excuses.

4) Practice Gratitude. On a daily basis. Fit it into your routine. When you wake up, before you go to bed or after dinner.. Think of all the incredible things in your life that you are grateful for. Feel the gratitude deep within yourself. You will feel much happier and content when you practice gratitude every day.

5) Be willing to pay the price. In order to achieve your (study) goals, you need to cut down on social time or time for hobbies/gym. Be aware of the costs for reaching that goal, and be prepared.

6) Adopt a growth mindset. Never stop learning to become better every single day. Small incremental improvements day by day will lead to huge results over years. Failures are a chance to improve.

7) Know what you want**. Set some daily goals and habits in place in order to achieve your biggest goal. What are you trying to achieve? And how will you design your life so that achieving it is possible?

I overcame procrastination by forcing myself, literally.
It works!! You don't need to feel motivated to be able to start doing what you have to do for the day. Like, I tell myself to get up from bed, and grab the book I need to read, and so forth. What I mean, I really tell myself the most obvious thing I'm supposed to do. I don't tell myself, like, "hey you gotta study" instead, i tell myself, "hey, get up. grab your laptop. grab your i abide by, "JUST DO IT" mantra too then i find myself in the process of loving what I'm doing. Getting started is always hard, but just do it! Just start doing it! And practice self-compassion if the results didn't turn out perfectly right. Embrace the hardships. Enjoy the process.
