19th season with my Echo SRM-235. The thing starts up just like the day I brought it home in the spring of 2005.
I have done all of the basic yearly maintenance to it, and have rebuilt the carb once.
I love my Echo power equipment!

I’ve had both. I liked the Stihl as it felt like it had a significantly more power but the speed feed on the Echo really trumped it all. I HATE taking apart a bump head to restring. I’ll deal with less power to get the speed feed.

I've owned the Echo for 12 years and love it. The starting instructions for mine say prime 6 times, which is perfect to purge the air in the bulb. It's usually 2 pulls after that. They may have different carb jetting with ever tightening emissions.

I bought the stihl fs-70r and put the echo speed feed head on it. The fs-70r has more power, lighter weight, far better starting process and resetting kill switch. The echo head is the best of the best. The stihl head is brand new in a drawer as a backup.

When I worked in the landscape industry I hated getting stuck with ECHO equipment they were hard to start and broke down more often. It was like do you want the equipment with the Briggs and Stratton or Honda engine. That was 20 years ago so things change. I still have a 30 year old Stihl chain saw made in Germany that runs like new, cut 3 cords of wood a year.
I have a 10 year old Stihl string trimmer where I switched to pre mixed fuel no ethanol which made a huge difference. The trimmer starts on one pull and it is like it is on steroids.

I absolutely love my Echo SRM-225. I've had it for several years and that thing will take down tall brush or do delicate edging work around the garden beds. Has tons of power and cranks every time on the 2 full choke pull. All I've ever done to it is use a little Purple Power to degrease it and put in Echo's tune up kit at the start of the season. I had to replace the spark arrestor one time and that cost me a sum total of $1.25 on Amazon for a genuine Echo part. Feed it good gas, either drain it or use Stabil before the storing it for the winter and it'll last longer than you will. I also have the Echo PB-580 backpack blower. Another total beast that makes fall leaf cleanup a snap.

Echo 225 is an excellent for homeowners. It does use more gas than my Stihl 94r, but not as much as the MTD and Husqvarna Lowes line. Bought the PAS 225 new in 2018, excepts attachments, still cranks easy. Has enough power to operate an edger attachment. Its light weight. The trigger effects my forearm after 30 minutes of use. Though I dislike the trigger, it is more secure than the Stihl. The Echo choke is easier to break. Echo heads are easy feed ($30), get in tight spaces, last me about 2 years.
I also have an FC 70R, which is the edger. It's been put through rough, commercial use. I was its second owner, and it performed well for me for years...think the ignition coil needs to be replaced. It was also easy to crank. Choke lever is concealed. Stihl makes an easy feed head also ($50)...its a little heavier but works well. Stihl kill switch is faster, but Echo isn't terrible. Stihl gas tank is looks more durable and easier to add fuel.

For the money, the Echo. Entry lawn care, the Stihl.

Great side-by-side comparison!! I'm looking at replacing my 10 yr old curved shaft trimmer, it just won't die... was looking Echo 225 & your video seals it for me. Great video as always 👍

I have Echo 225's and Stihl fs 70/80's at work. I do agree the line head on the Echo is a better design but, I just prefer the Stihl ergonomics and the way their engines run compared to Echo. It's hard to explain unless you've run both for a while. Some at work prefer the Echo. Bottom line, they are both quality machines.

Dude the Echo SRM-225 made fell in love with yard work in general. My dad used to own very unresponsive trimmers so I always hated it. But when I bought this baby and heard it turn on the *second* stroke I couldn’t believe it 😂. Nothing I value more than a having tool that works *exactly* when it’s needed. It clogs from time to time (I use it a lot), but I happily do its maintenance as long as I can keep using this.

I hope one day I get to use a Stihl trimmer too they look good.

I love when you prepare the comparison charts. I keep trying to read the USA Today paper you have posted, but the "Youth Jailed" always catches my attention. 😂 Great job, JB 🥰

the stihl fs56 isnt a bad machine, but after a couple years, and on hotter days it does tend to flood and have trouble starting. Not impossible to get running at the point, just choke off, maybe ten pulls, and then half-choke it and its running again fine. Those whippers usually last me at least 2 years of full-time use. its a couple hundred cheaper than the fs70. I just pull the guards off on day one anyway, and switch the head to the echo speed-feed.

Hey JB .. would love to see a comparison vid on an Echo vs Stihl backpack blower for the upcoming fall season ! I’m very impressed with my Echo hand held blower but was leaning towards the Stihl backpack as it appears to be the one that all the pros use.

Sorry to hear that, JB...and I feel really bad for Garage Gal. 🤣

I like the Echo also. Speed feed head is great.
Parts availability for the consumer is better with Echo.

Used the echo a few years. I just recently went to the pawn shop and picked up a stihl 70. Looking for more rip to cut weeds and poison oak. My echo has a rhino blade head but the stihl could use bigger gauge string. Maybe I'll get the 225 serviced but seems like it's list its power. Also the exaust fuel residue seems to be dirty, so stihl might be better. I guess that the stihl can have a blade also?

I've had my SRM 225 since August 2017 and it still runs awesome. But I think my next trimmer will be the SRM 2320T.

Another very informative video. I personally just bought the SRM 225 and so far it’s been great! Wouldn’t mind a hair bigger engine. Totally agree the speed feed head is a game changer for sure. Thank you for sharing your experience. GO BILLS!!
