F150 vs Mustang Coyote: What's the Difference?

Показать описание

When it comes down to it all, the F150 and Mustang Coyote are incredibly similar. The major differences come down to the intake cams, tuning, exhaust manifolds, and intake manifold. F-150 Coyotes are less performance-focused, but given the price differences, there’s no wonder that people are interested in using them for Coyote swaps.

I work for the company that molded/manufactured the Gen 2 air intake manifolds for both the F150 and the Mustang. I can confirm 100% that the manifolds are different. This goes beyond just the silver colored upper cover shell of the Mustang manifold. The truck manifold does have longer runners. This difference necessitated the need for different injection molding and vibration welding tools between the two manifolds.

I’ve been waiting forever to see someone that actually knew what they were talking about to break this down fast and simply. You sir, know your engines. Great video!!

2018 ford f-150 4x4 5.0 coyote with the 10 speed transmission 395 horsepower great truck got a lot of speeding tickets in it

The cast iron manifolds in the F-150 also tolerate more heat. They are better suited for sustained high RPM operation like towing heavy loads uphill.

It’s literally comparing two similar engines with different purposes. One isn’t better than other as a whole, instead one is superior to the other in it’s given purpose. Obviously subject to change because it’s still a Coyote with changeable parts and tune.
Great video

Just a little update for 2021, It makes 400 hp and 410 ft-lb of torque. And has cylinder deactivation+ belt drivin oil pump.

I also loved to see a Coyote swap in an OBS F150 like the ones from 92-96.

So making a F150 coyote engine to the mustang coyote engine standard is to change the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, cams, and it can more power than a mustang coyote, I got really confused there.

You might also wanna add that gen2 f150 and mustang coyote heads are different different castings and different valves and valve springs
The more you know...

Gen 3 Mustangs use MAF calculation for tuning, while the F-150s use MAP

The best part is than the gen 2 truck engine uses the old Windsor HO, Mod, Cleveland firing order. Which makes it sound much better than the Mustang coyote. But it also means no… Camshafts are not interchangeable between the two unless you’re going to make some serious changes.

I have the 2014 version in my F150, and, I love it. Much better than the 5.3 v eights in my old Silverados.

I think Ford should release a special 'sport' version of the F150 with a slightly modified version of the Mustang spec engine. It wouldn't be complex to do, and it would be perfect for those who mostly use their half-tons as family cars and want something more fun/special. The short tubular headers on the Mustang engine serve a fairly important purpose for managing exhaust pulses more efficiently over the cast log manifolds of the F150. Better mid to top-end torque/power. This is also the reason for going with good long-tube headers on a Mustang; even better flow management at high revs.

I appreciate the content. I had a gen 2 F150 variant, and currently have a gen 3 mustang variant, good to know the differences.

Important distinction you missed... F150 Coyote is Speed Density (via MAP/MAT) and Mustang is MAF... the tuning is totally different.

Very good information. Big coyote fan learned a lot. Have a 2012 Mustang GT and a 2018 F-150 with the V8

I have a 2014 5.0 and I’m thinking of putting the 18+ manifold on it!

Ive got an 88 F250 7.3 idi. I was thinking about swapping in a GM 8.1 Liter 496 cu in Vortec. I'd consider the Ford equivalent, but I don't think there is there?

I would like to add that the cubic inch displacement from 11-17 was 302 and from 18 + is 307.

I’ve always wondered what was the difference between the two! Great video 👏🏾
