In today's video, JD walks you through the basic differences between the four generations of Coyote F-150 engines, ranging from '11 to current. This specifically covers the F-150 engines and their variations.

While a lot of information is shared here, in no way is it absolutely comprehensive. It's always advised to research in-depth and know the history of the engine you're working on or considering purchasing. Particularly if your intention is to make high horsepower!

Gen 2 was by far the best, fixed all the issues and before the government got involved with cylinder deactivation and auto start stop. Haven’t had an issue with mine over 105k

Thanks for a good explanation. I’m looking at a 15 f150 right now and I’m told it’s a better choice then the Gen 1’s

For the gen 2 coyote f150 Are the Pistons, rods and crankshaft the same material as the gen 2 coyote mustang because the gen 2 coyote mustang did use some parts from the roadrunner engine

Can a supercharger from a gen 3 coyote f150 fit onto a gen 4 coyote f150?

I thought gen 4 coyote came out in the 2024 f-150 not 21? the 8th digit on the vin for the 2021 is a 5 which is Gen3.

IMRC? Is that charge motion control valves? And does gen 4 have that?

Specifically, when do you recommend upgrades oil pump gears for a supercharged 5.0 F-150? Based on year made or boost level or both or what?

I recently bought a 18 f150 engine is knocking. I will be changing it my question is for you guys. Will a gen1 or 2 fit in the 18 or it won’t work because of deactivation system in the 18+ ? Thanks in advance

I was thinking the gen 2 15 up went to 11:1 compression like the mustang then in 18 both went to 12:1. Meaning 11-14 is 10.5:1, 15-17 is 11:1 then 12:1 18 up. I was thinking the 11-14 was the only iteration that had lower compression than the mustang. Is that correct or did it stay 10 5:1 all the way to 2017?

Do you think the 4th gen is strong enough to handle a supercharger? Not talking racing but just as a fun reliable daily driver.

Are all the 5.0 engines put in a 2018 f150s "coyote" engines. If not, how do you identify if it is?

So besides being performance based in the Mustang or the coyotes in the GT are they the same as the truck and are they technically coyotes in the truck? For instance vortec engines 4.8 and 5.3 are not technically Ls's but everyone in the automotive industry calls them less Ls's. Is it the same for Ford trucks and cars?
