How to Jump Start Your Cub Cadet Riding Mower When It Won't Start! [Cub Cadet Troubleshoot]

To follow along in my "How to Jump Start Your Cub Cadet Riding Mower When It Won't Start! [Cub Cadet Troubleshoot]" instructional video you first must have your behind in the seat because there is a safety mechanism under the seat that will not allow the Cub Cadet Mower to start unless it's being engaged. The next thing is to press the brake on the left side down with your left leg/foot and then turn the key to the right. It should start right up. If not, first troubleshooting step is to make sure it has gas in the tank. This takes regular unleaded gasoline or ethanol free premium gas. Once the motor starts and you want to go, you will simultaneously slowly release the brake with your left foot and then engage throttle with your right foot by pressing the forward most lever. There are two levers located at your right foot. The front one is forward and the back one is for reverse. This riding mower is a cub cadet riding mower and is an XT2 enduro series. I laugh about that and every time i think about "enduro" which to me means it's street legal. Whenever I'm done I make it a habit to pull the key out because that battery will go dead as it has many times in the past which ends up costing me a battery replacement. The throttle adjustment is important as well too. I usually like to keep it up high when I'm mowing an lower if I'm not mowing rather just transiting from one location to the other.

Gotta say, very helpful. I just replaced the drive belt on my CCadet, and it wouldn't even attempt to turn over. 12.8V bat dropped to 12.3 when the key was turned, so I knew it was TRYING, but no clicks or cranks. Did your jumpstart trick, took about 30 seconds of cranking and it ran. Turned it off, attempted to key start the mower, and it's been working perfectly fine now. Thank you sir. 🍻

It might be better to place the positive cable on the starter terminal first then the negative to the frame. That will avoid any arc damage to the terminal nuts or stud.

If you would lock your parking brake first, it might have fired right up when you touched the hot red lead to the starter.

Why would you turn the key on before hooking up the cables? You should simply hook the positive and negative cables to the battery and then start the tractor as you normally would. There should not be any sparks when jump-starting a lawn tractor with a battery pack.

I am confused. My mower does nothing when turning the key. You got it started, but what's the issue to begin with? Why is it not starting with the key? I don't want to and should not have to jump it off lole this every time.

Liked and subscribed, my Cub Cadet XT-1-Lt50 acts like it doesn't want to quit running after I turn off the key. it shakes and clunks. How can I fix that? Spark plugs are fine.

Does that identify the starter as the problem? We replaced the solenoid.

Great vid! tried this method, but no luck... i hear the click of the solenoid and a squeal/whine and no turn over... any ideas?

Wouldn’t you want to put the possible on first not the negative?

The starter is self-grounding. You do not need to hook up a ground at all at any time. Not to the battery not to the starter not to the frame. Nothing. You put the red on the battery you put the red on the starter, end of story.
