How to safely jump start a vehicle with a dead battery, and the correct way to hook up jumper cables.

Having to jump start a dead battery in a vehicle is something no one really likes to have to experience. It's something that happens so infrequently, that when you're faced with having to do it, you may not remember the best way to go about hooking everything up. It's important to know how to jump start a car, or any vehicle for that matter, and I'll show you how to do that in this video in a very safe way. It may seem like a simple thing to do to many of you, but there are some wrong ways to do it that could cause damage to the vehicles involved, and possibly injury to yourself. I also discuss types of jumper cables, and even portable jump starters and power banks that can be great to have when there's no other vehicle around to help you jump start your car.

Step-by-step, dummy-proof. And your voice is perfect for instructions, narrations, documentaries, voice overs, announcements, fight presentations, singing! My Dad was my source for automotive knowledge but, since he's been gone, I haven't needed to jumpstart a battery until today. Thanks a lot for your perfect explanation!

Woke up to a disabled vehicle today after I left my interior lights on by mistake. My girlfriend has never assisted with jumping someone’s car without a more experienced person on standby and neither have I. Your video was clear, easy to follow, and the visual was fantastic. We got my car going! Thank you. 🎉

Boy I add my thanks to you Stan!! I’m a 70 yr old woman who always had someone else jump start my car. With your explicit instruction (and I watched 4xs to ID all of the parts and find that darn metal screw to attach the negative clamp to on my 2014 Subaru Outback- no help from the Subaru Manuel in that) and tears in my eyes because I have such fear of sparks and possible explosion, I successfully jump started my car all by myself- well, with you talking me through. I am forever grateful!!! Now off to go sea kayaking!!

Clear, straightforward instructions, no extra bull-talk, worked for me just great. And YES, always have jumper cars in each vehicle. 12 foot cables are my average. Longer, the better, YES. Thank you!

Only a superior mind could produce an absolutely clear and concise explanatory video like this one.

Tip...don't allow cars to run at the same time with the cables attached. The alternators run against each other and could cause electrical problems.

Thank you Stan! I came here to be reminded of what order to put the cables on and in addition I learned to not put the negative cable on the dead battery- always learning something new! Have a great day :)

Stan that was the best instructional video I've seen way better than what I could have done. One thing I check for that is not talked about much is visual inspection of the battery. Before jumping the battery look at the sides of the battery (the battery case) especially in freezing temperatures. . If the sides are budging this indicates the battery is frozen or at one time was frozen. Frozen battery can explode the cells inside could be broken and create an electrical short. Buy new battery you are playing with something that could explode. Anytime you jump a battery have everyone stand back. When your making the last connection, grounding the negative cable to the dead vehicle best to shield your face and eyes at the least turn your face away. These type of explosions are rare but can happen just as you stated in the video.

THANK YOU for being short, sweet, & to the point with the clear visuals. Half the videos I've found ppl like to wax poetic about their sponsors or the specifics of their car for 5min before they even touch on how to DO the jump, & it's incredibly frustrating.

I had to jump my old car all the time, but my new one hasn't needed it til now, over 2yrs later, so my memory was pretty rusty 😂

WOW! I've jumped a number of cars in my life and never thought about the safety of it. I'll definitely use this method from now on
