VERY VERY HELPFUL!! My son's friend left his headlights on all night! My husband wasn't home and my two sons and their friends didn't know how to jump start the car so I looked in my van and found the jumper cables and I went on You Tube and punched in how to jump start a car and yours was the first one to come up. It was my first time doing this and I LOVED LOVED how you explained EVERY step and the tips you added were helpful and good to know!! THANK YOU THANK YOU! I HOPE YOU KNOW HOW AWESOME YOU ARE!

This might be the most useful video on YouTube. Helpful, comprehensive, no filler, and easy to follow.

Last week, my friend called me VERY VERY early in the morning asking me if I had jumper cables and I begrudgingly checked my trunk and saw some. Slight problem - have never jumped a car before. I went on youtube and found your video and WOW - just wow. Such a clear, concise video. Did the whole thing in minutes successfully. I barely had to rewind to catch what you said which is always a great sign. I just had to go back and comment to say thank you!!

Been driving cars, trucks, UHauls and RV for 50 years and could never do jumper cables. This is the first clear lesson I've ever had. Thanks Mr. Fix!

Thank you so much for making this video and being so thorough!! I was able to jump a car for my very first time, completely alone as I had no one else to turn to except for this video. The growing pains are hard but I’m thankful for people like you making YouTube videos for the rest of us ❤

I work at a car lot and have to frequently jump cars. Also jumped my fair share of cars just being out and helping someone. Never have I put the negative cable anywhere else than on the negative terminal of the battery. Never had a spark, never been blown up.

Great job Chris! Very well explained! Anyone looking for a step-by-step list, I made one, but all credit still goes to Chris!

Jump starting a car:
1. Red lead on positive terminal on the dead battery
2. Red lead on positive terminal on the good battery
3. Black lead on negative terminal on the good battery
4. Black lead on a bare piece of metal on the dead car(Grounding point)
5. Start the good car and let it run for about 2 minutes
6. Start the dead car
7. Remove black lead from the chosen grounding point on the dead car
8. Remove red lead from the positive terminal on the dead battery
9. Remove read lead from the positive terminal on the good battery
10. Remove black lead from negative terminal on good battery
DO NOT LET ANY OF THE LEAD’S ENDS TOUCH EACH OTHER AT ANY POINT

If dead car doesn’t start:

If the dead car slowly drags- Let the good car run for about 5 minutes to allow it to charge the dead car’s battery

If the dead car is really close to starting- have the person in the good car rev the engine to around 2000rpm and hold it there while the person in the dead car tries to start it again

If the dead still isn’t running-
1. Check to make sure all connections are tight and secure
2. Try moving the dead car’s negative lead to a different ground point
3. Unfortunately, road side assistance or another method of obtaining a good battery

Mr. Fix,

I am impressed how detailed you are updating folks about many car matters which some of
could even open eyes on people who believe to know it already, thanks a lot and take care!

IT WORKED!!! Before watching this video I had hooked the negative cable to the negative dead battery post and my car didn't start. Then I came onto YouTube and clicked on this video, and you told me to put the negative jumper cable on a negative electrical metal so i did put it on the dead bolt like you did in this video AND MY CAR STARTED!!!! THANK YOU!!!

Thank you so much. I usually ask my husband, but he passed away recently and I need a refresher on how to jump my truck. Your video was even more helpful than he was. You explained why you put the cables where and in what order.

I feel like I am almost a pro now learning how to flush and properly clean my coolant, change the oil, jump start cars, and so much more. I'm now the family car-fixer man thanks to you. Keep on providing this wonderful knowledge that helps so many of us. -Mike T from California

Thanks, I used your instruction to jumpstart my sister's car. She had used the manufacturer's instructions but they had not listed the requirement for waiting for a couple of minutes for the process to work! She was in a hurry so I drove her to work. But second time around I was able to rectify the situation. Thanks again brother.
