Anyone still unsure of how lore breaking the show is should just go to the Tolkien gateway online. Type some names in and read the Second age timelines. Shouldn't take long.

The rings haven't even been created yet and we are seeing Isildur?!!

I think there could be large time jumps between each of the 5 seasons with some cast not being in other seasons as they would have died of old age.

Obviously the show plays with the timeline A LOT, but I think they did it in the best way they could to tell a coherent story, I still think this show gets too much hate

It's apparent that the showrunners are drastically compressing the timeline, which would be much more practical.

The show is likely going to compress and mix chronology. It's the only way, even with 5 seasons, to handle thousands of years of events. It's not going to be a purist take in terms of chronology, events, motivations, etc. I hope it will stay true overall to the map of lore and endpoints. LOTRs as a movie was hard to do but timeline ways, manageable because it takes place over about a year. Covering the Second Age, choosing which events, and not compressing and mixing, would likely be challenging from a story-telling POV. It's not accident that Tolkien mostly wrote history-like texts.

Crap! It is as I feared. It's been a while since I brushed up on my LotR lore, but I was thoroughly thrown by the timelines in the series, unable to get them to make sense - and it seems with good reason. Especially the presence of Elendil did not add up. Never mind the they forged the 3 rings in one afternoon and forgot about the other 16 entirely.
Damn, do I wish you had been right about the trailer featuring scenes from all over the 5 seasons of series...
