The Rings of Power is about to return us to Middle in the Earth in the middle of the Second Age of Middle earth. In this video we explain what that means, how this connects to the 6 films, and what to expect in the new Amazon show.

Edited by Randolf Nombrado, Sean Martin and Ethan Lavinsky

#RingsOfPower #LordOfTheRings

Now most fans of the movies will remember that the second age ended when the king’s son isilduor cut the evil ring from suaron’s finger, but he lacked the conviction to destory it in mount doom [no]. And later he was killed, the ring came to gollum, from gollum to Bilbo, etc.

But let’s talk about this new series, which has a huge budget…reportedly 60 million per episode, twice that of stranger things season 4.

The highly anticipated Amazon series is going to be gigantic and promises to bring the world of Middle Earth to new cinematic levels on the small screen! It reportedly costs almost $60 million per episode, more than double Strangers Thing's budget, so they aren't penny-pinching. The trailers have rightly been pretty vague but I’m here to give you the inside scoop on everything you need to know before heading to

Rings of Power takes place during the Second Age of Middle Earth. It’s sandwiched in the middle between The Silmarillion, which mostly covers the First Age, and the Hobbit and Lord of The Rings, which takes place in the Third Age. J.R.R Tolkein only briefly touched upon the Second Age in the appendixes found at the end of the Return of the King. However, J.R’s son, Christopher Tolkien would go on to expand his father's unpublished manuscripts about the Second Age in the book “Shaping Middle Earth.” If reading is your thing, there is also a new book coming out titled, The Fall of Númenor (spoiler alert) that fans can grab on Nov. 15th edited by Brian Sibley. Which should satiate all you book worms out there. Clip suggestion: "OH isn't this amazing"

You think that’s amazing? The book is also going to be illustrated by Alan Lee, who won an Oscar for his contributions to the art direction of The Lord of the Rings films. Clip suggestion: [Impressive ]

What we do know is that The Second Age begins after the final overthrow of Morgoth by the Valar in the War of Wrath. Morgoth, as a Valar, was wayyyy more powerful than the dark lord Sauron, who is a Maia. If you fear this video might be slipping into Colbert territory, - Valar and Maia rant - Don’t panic, I couldn’t compete with Stephen if I tried. To make it easier, think of Morgoth as Darkseid and Sauron as Steppenwolf. RIP Snyderverse.

I have a suspicion that the show will also give us a backstory to the First Age based on the trailer footage. So rest assured I’m not going to make you Charlie Day the history of the first age, because that would get very confusing.

Okay, well we can talk about Melkor and the Ungoliant, who drained the life of the trees, thus creating the sun and moon that then led to the beginning of the first great wars of Middle Earth. THEN in the Second Age, Ar-Pharazôn attacks the shores of Aman in an attempt to besiege Tirion upon Túna.

Good idea. Maybe Galadriel will have a monologue that sums up all of that. [“oh thank god” ]

So, we are talking about the Second Age of Middle earth, which is 3,441 years long. But the Amazon Five season show will condense the timeline, in order to highlight the major plot points.

That’s what the Rings of Power's narrative will be focused on; the rise of Sauron with the forging of the great rings and his seduction of the powerful human race of Númenor, which inevitably will lead to their downfall….or sinking if we’re being literal.

Yes, you heard it referenced several times before in LOTR when referencing Aragon, most of the time to his face. (Clips). We also know that Ringwraiths come to pass, the early wars between Sauron and the Elves will begin and of course, the One Ring will be made in this time. - "One Ring to rule them all"

Galadriel’s monologue tells us as well when the Second Age ends and the third, more familiar one begins. When Isildur takes his father's sword Narsil and cuts the One Ring from Sauron's finger, destroying Sauron's physical form–the beginning of the Third Age has begun. It's safe to bet we won’t touch this area however unless it’s the last sequence of the show. Also, it’s already been perfectly done by Peter Jackson, and “why mess with perfection?”

I'm not the foremost expert on Tolkien lore, but even I know that the elven rings were not Silmarils. Two of them were lost to the sea and earth if I remember right. The 3rd became the light carried by Earendil.

The elven rings aren't silmarils (one ended up in the sky, one lost to earth, one lost to water); and the Blue Wizards in one revision could be present in the 2nd age.

Sauron didn't forget the elves rings, celibrimbor forged them separately using knowledge learnt by sauron, but unlike the 9 for men and 7 for dwarves, sauron was not present during their forging.

A lot of mistakes in this video. Most egregiously the Silmarils were not made into the Elven rings. They were scattered amongst the sky, earth and sea.

Man seeing everyone correcting all the errors in this video bodes well for the new series lore lol

an observation: The C in Celebrimbor is pronounced with a "K" sound, so it would sound like Kelebrimbor, this would also apply to other names such as Celeborn and Celebrían (Galadriel's family).

The three elven rings were made by the elves. Sauron never touched them.

The 3-silmarils did not actually became the three elven ring. One of them was burned together with Meathros, one of the sons of Feanor. The other one was cast out of the sea with Meathros' brother Meaglor, never to be found again. The only known and visible silmaril is with Earendelle (father of Elrond). It can be seen as the brightest star during night time.

Can't wait to see how they tie in Anakin's fall to the dark side while also including how Agent Smith found Neo in the first place! I can tell it will faithful to Tolkien's source material.

0:25 you’ve made a mistake early on, in the movies Bilbo’s scene with Gollum is in film 1 “An Unexpected Journey”, while “Desolation of Smaug” is part 2.

The harfoots aren’t predecessors of the hobbits, they actually are a branch of hobbits alongside the stoors and fallowhides (as raised in the video), so this predecessor thing this is a lie from Rings of Power.

It began with the forging of the great films. Threads were given by Tolkien, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Rights were granted to Jackson, great miner, and craftsman of the mountain of lore. And nine, nine hours were gifted to the race of men, who above all else, desire quality. But they were all of them deceived, for another show was made. In the land of Amazon, in the fires of Mount Prime, the Dark Lord Bezos forged in secret a master flop. And into this show he poured his money, his greed and his will to dominate all film. One show to ruin them all.
For into darkness fell Tolkien's star, in Amazon, where no bathrooms breaks are.

Elros didn't create the Numenoreans - the Valar gifted the Edain (the men who fought with the Elves against Morgoth in the first age) the island of Numenor and blessed them with longer life. Elros was the first king.

I remember in the theater when Galadriel resisted the rings temptation. One hell of a scene .

One nitpick. Celebrimbor, like all elves with a name beginning with C, is pronounced with a hard C or K sound, rather than the soft C/S sound. In the international phonetic alphabet, it's shown as kɛlɛˈbrimbɔr.

What kills me is how Isildur truly did nothing wrong, and how the movies portrays his character, not to mention Faramir taking Frodo and Sam captive rather than helping them in the woods, or the One Ring going anywhere near Osgiliath - that stated, one of my most cherished trilogies to date ^^;;

My favorite part was when Galadriel & the ewok got into the Tardis. They set their phasers on stun for their night on the town in Wakanda. I laughed until I cried. 10/10. JRR Martin will love Amazon's adaptation.

Well, definitely wasn't flawless. For example silmarils didn't end up as rings... But quite proficient in summarizing important events that happened before the show. 👍
