Salary growth is the same as dividend investing. You can pick a high yielding stock now, and the dividend will never grow (or even drop) or you can invest in a dividend growing stock, take a smaller dividend now but it will sharply grow over the years

Apart from the experience he will gain and the growth potential, I think the story highlights a bit the "unhealthiness" of comparing one's self to another, especially with something so basic as salary. Salary is important, but it's certainly not everything. There's job satisfaction, security, growth potential, etc.

I think alot of young professionals focus too much on salary that they lose sight of the experience and skills they need to gain. The salary will come, but it's the journey that matters.

Hello, that's what just happened to me, the timing couldn't be better :).
I had a better opportunity with +60% of my current salary on a less known company.
I'm 28 so it was verry tempting especially in the short term.
One must keep in mind that when changing you need to "rebuild" your brand too, starting from the bottom.
So, Long runs over short terms profits.
