I watched this video about 20 times before asking for a raise, I just want to say Thank you! I got a 25% raise 👍🏼

After watching this Video, I used this technique at the end of my performance review.
I asked for a 20% pay raise because I'm underpaid while being a high performer.
Director and manager laughed at me and asked if I'm really serious about this, and I said yes.
Next month I got a 16% pay raise and an average bonus.
Better than nothing.
Thanks for this video !

I always knew I was underpaid but didn't care cause it was my first job and didn't have any relevant experience. But now it's been a year. Thank you so much man. I will do my research and have a proper proposal. I will let y'all know how it goes.

This got me a 25% raise- thanks so much- saw you on Ground Up podcast and this stuck with me years later. Revisited it this month and was able to increase my raise to start hitting my financial goals :)

Excellent framework. Non defensive, data driven, and collaborative.

Haha, basically everyone. Everyone is underpaid. So on point, love it. ❤️

Thanks for this video. I'll try this technique. I love my job but it's hard sometimes to get motivated when you know you are underpaid. It feels unfair and its frustrating

"average performers, go to hell" hahaha yes. I had a meeting last week with an escrow company for a marketing position and the pay range on the form was 30-60K so when they asked me about comp requirements, I refered back to another video I watched of yours and reminded them of the massive amount of value I will be providing and then confidently requested 50-60K range with bonuses. However, after watching this, I realize that I should be asking for much more as that was simply their range. In essence, play their game, win their prizes. Thank you Ramit for the ammo going into this week for round 2 of meetings and more negotiations I can only imagine. Cheers! - Kyler

Good point. I think raises should be an automatic adjustment based on your 6 month to yearly performance. Alot of employees profit big off your labor. I'm not the customer, I am the employee!

How can you be a top performer and what exactly defines a top performer? In sales or business this is probably easier defined as someone whose made more in sales, but how about in other fields, such as Tech?

There is something called "The Ultimatum Game". If two people share the spoils of a joint venture, and the stronger, bigger guy offers his smaller, punier partner mere scraps with a "take it or leave it" ultimatum, we'd expect that the puny partner would take what is offered because he can't stand up to the bully. But in real life, it's seen that even people in a very weak negotiating position refuse offers that insultingly low. This is a hangover from the Stone Age when you had to fight for every scrap of meat with other members of your horde. If you didn't stand up to the big bully you'd likely die of hunger. If you stood up, you'd probably take a few hard punches but next time the bully will think twice before trying to cheat you out of a fair deal. As a result, in most collaborative situations, people actually make fair offers to their partners.

Tried this today. It went okay, but I don't think my employer realized what the average salary for my job is.

I think having another offer in hand would help a lot in this situation
