classical position has so many perks for both right and left hand technique and also prevents carpal tunnel in the long term

Learnt on acoustic age 7, now 35 still play in classical. So much more comfortable.

I am a self-taught guitarist and I also started with the casual position because I saw it being done by many artists I liked. I considered the classical position with a foot stool outdated, but I started to recognized that the classical position makes it so much easier to learn new stuff. Today I just don't care about what looks "cool" and rather prefer to learn it properly.

When I first started playing I didn't know about this, even though I was doing it. This is why I love V guitars. They are made for it

I used to play in casual but now I've been playing in classical for about 4 years and prefer it over all

I just use my strap. It's at a length, so my guitar always sits in that sweet spot of comfort whether im sitting or standing.

Never knew the names until now! Cheers..I learnt on a warlock(my first guitar) and hence classical felt super comfortable. Over the years learnt casual bc it helped me to play better standing.

I've always played like that without even really thinking about it until my friend once pointed it out and I started to question if the "casual" position would be objectively better since almost everyone plays electric like that. Glad to find out that it's actually a thing and is not going to hinder my progress! 😅

Same as me, classical guitar was the first I learned and that was the position.
I still sit like that when I play at home.

Ah that's why whenever i saw others playing they had their guitar perfectly aligned but mine looked a bit outward, I'm a self taught guitarist so i just kept what i was comfortable with so i mostly used the casual method, now it makes so much sense.

Also when you play standing guitar is more in classical position than casual so it is always good to play classical position.

I usually play in the classical position but sometimes I do play in the casual position.

Tim Pierce and Andy Timmons use a device that clamps on the underside of the guitar that lifts it up and tips the neck skyward, and Josh Meader uses a sculpted cushion that does a similar thing.

I'm seeing people advocating that the best feature of Strandberg guitars is the way the body is carved on the lower bout to allow placing it on either leg to put the neck at about a 45 degree angle, and it's intriguing, although if that's the best feature and something similar can be accomplished by a cheap attachment to a normal guitar, I'm not sure the $2-3k prices are really justified.

But I hope everyone will keep being very aware of the ergonomics of playing, and factor in the long term effects of playing a lot when picking up new instruments or picking guitars to cull; I think it should be a big factor for anyone wishing to play a lot and not be forced to quit when they get old and the repetitive stress takes its toll.

Bro same. I was taught that way on a nylon acoustic in high school so I always feel more comfortable playing like that

I'm gonna try classical because I've seen a few vids explaining how it's much better for your arm.

You know it's funny cus I completely forgot I used to use something as a prop for one of my feet like the stand. I have quit doing that though as I've gotten older and I actually play more in the casual now at 40 rather than at 16-32 most of it was classical position. Good video

That’s the way I’ve always played guitar. I can’t remember who I seen playing like that and I tried it and was like this is much more comfortable for me. And it transitions to playing standing up better also.

I always play in classical position too. It's just more comfortable for me
