Biggest Differences Between Pokemon: The First Movie and Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution

Netflix's recent release of the 22nd Pokemon movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution, comes full circle by returning to the first film of the franchise: Pokemon: The First Movie - Mewtwo Strikes Back. The original film is likely a cornerstone of many a young millennial's memory (there are no doubt countless twentysomethings who were traumatized by seeing Pikachu crying as kids).

Biggest difference in the movie is that the writers know the difference between Pidgeotto and Pidgeot

I hate they took out the line, “He doesn’t have a nickname but go charizard!” It was such a fire line

Pikachu’s crying in the remake was like so exaggerated. His crying in the original was more kinda subtle soft cry which in my opinion made it sadder. i remember watching this when i was a kid. I don’t necessarily hate the remake but i prefer the original.

The speech between Meowth and his clone about "looking at what was the same instead of what's different" was totally removed, I still remember that speech all these years ago.
Not sure why they removed that :(

A difference didn’t like it in the new when Ash died in all you hear is Pikachu crying. No music, you don’t hear the other Pokémon crying. It not as sad as the original

I cried for the original and I cried again for the remake. Ash’s death and Pikachu shocking him gets me every time.

an important thing they took away was the part where mewto see's the little girl and the baby clones which really fleshed out mewtos character

The most important difference was they completely skipped over the legend of the Pokemon tears, so the part where Ash is revived is confusing for any new people watching it.

Mew sits on the opposite side of the windmill from the original thus the visual gag is different

Meowth's speech to his clone was changed

What I really hoped to see in the remake that sadly wasn't included was Jessie's pun as they rowed the boat to New Island

"Stroke! Stroke! Stroke! Oh I'm gonna get one..."
