One of the things i hate about the original series is how they treated Gary he barely shows up and when he does show up he doesn't do much but atleast he got gradually better throughout the anime

You're mistaken. In the anime, moves work so differently from the ones in the games. Dragon Rage only does 40 HP damage in the games, whereas in the anime it can be an ultimate attack. Like it was in the Orange Islands saga for example.

Ash's charizard was able to defeat golem in one dragon range because ash's charizard had done training in charisific valley and also had experience of with fighting with entei a legendary beast as ash's charizard fought with entei in the movie the mystery of unknown.

The anime handles dragon rage differently than the games. My head cannon was that since golem rolled into dragon rage, that means that he hit it with harder force
