What's your favorite camera!!! Anyone looking to update?

Love my 1Dx and 1Dx mark II. For my needs (amateur sports photographer that already had some EF lenses), these fit the bill and were very affordable. Got both for less than half the cost of an R3.

I'm shooting with the 6D Mark II and love it. Full frame for 1399 can't beat it.

I just past my 1st year anniversary with my M50. It is my first camera that made me consider myself a photographer oppose to a person with a camera. I've been really happy with it and I'm still learning new things with it. That said, I've almost immediately been thinking about a second camera. I thought I had settled on getting a R6, but hearing you talk about the M6 Mk 2 is making me reconsider, a little.

I briefly thought about the RP so I can get experience with a full frame camera. But it just feels bad to spend about $1000 for something that for many specs is a side grade if not a straight up down grade. Plus I need to buy all new lenses. With the exception of MPs, the R6 is better in every way. The R5 would be better, but that is way out of my budget. In some ways the R6 is also outside of my budget. I'm was planning on taking the pain and making it happen anyways. There is something to say about the M line though. I currently have 3 Canon M lenses and I'm considering getting 3 more. The lenses along with the M50 itself are so light and compact. That has been extremely valuable to me this last year. I pickup a DSLR at Best Buy last year for the first time and it blew me away with how heavy it was. Made me like my M50 even more. The R6 felt light in my hands as well so I am looking foward to getting one.

What interests me about the M6 Mk 2 is that its MP is bigger than either M50 or the R6. Its FPS is also more than the M50. For $1000 it would be an upgrade in the ways I care about and I already have a collection of lenses for it. Its only downside for me is that I want to play with a full frame camera. So I might pick it up after I get a R6, whenever that happens.

Great post! I"m very old school, and am happy to stick with my 20D, 7D Mk II, 1DX Mk III, and even my old 300D, the OG DSLR I bought back in 2003. I've got some reasonably good glass, with the 70-200 f/4 on my wish list to get before end-of-year (subtle hints dropped to my wife regarding Christmas...), and maybe a good 500mm some day. I know that mirrorless is the wave of the future, and I have nothing against it, but my gear is perfectly good for my needs and I don't see the need to make the move.

Tbh this is now very old school I guess.. but the best stills camera from Canon under $1000 is a used 5D Mark iii.

You can find em for $650 or so and they are feature packed. The biggest downside is that the dynamic range on the censor is worse than a lot of its contemporaries, but that hasn’t stopped many professionals from getting incredible shots out of it for 10 years now. It’s a gem and an absolute workhorse

Very helpful thank you. Even more helpful because you have recently sold your 5D4, which I would like to do and then purchase either the R6 or R7. As a hybrid sport shooter, which would you recommend based on the specs and understanding that you actually haven’t tested the R7?

Always fun looking through a video you already commented on 7 months ago. For 2023 trying to shoot with cameras 5+ years or older.

I just bought my first camera EOS R about 6 months ago and I really enjoy it. Good quality pics. How ever hindsight being 20/20 I wish I would have splurged a bit more and gone with the R5. Buy once cry once.

Thank you for your video Dan. I'm a 90D owner looking to move to the next level (higher quality and capability in video, fastest focus and tracking for wildlife and action, and great image quality at higher ISO speeds). I don't want to go to less resolution (than the 90D 32MP), so R5, R5C and the R7 announcement are on my radar. Having a tough time deciding. Do you have any wisdom for making a decision between the R5 and the R5C? I shoot a variety of subjects (feather, fur, faces and places) and video. Hmmm...

Would anyone believe that I went from a Canon R5 to combo Canon 90D / Panasonic HC-X1500? I did and its a great combo as video is my main business.
Great overview, Dan, thank you! 🇺🇸

Love my r6 shoot weddings and portraits with it. I thought the low megapixels would hurt me, but I honestly cant even tell the difference! Im not cropping in a huge amount (if i crop at all), so i find it is perfect. I cant wait for the mark II, if the rumors are true. Hopefully it will adopt the 26 megapixels from the 6D mark II so i do have the option to crop if needed.
