Why is the Mormon church obsessed with marriage, large families, and missionary work? Well, it could be the money. Just a guess.

Article about Mormon doctrines regarding birth control:

Official policies around broth control including President David O McKay’s statement that “the church doesn’t not approve any type of birth control”:

I personally think if a church organization requires tithe or any other payment to be in good standing, you should have your not-for-profit status taken away.

The church took those millions and invested them tax-free. Like new testament Jesus said: go thou and buy up shopping malls and make all maner of investments that thou mayest pile up lucre taller than the great tower of babel.

Great video! I've often thought that between the insistence that a member must pay a full tithe and "every member a missionary" that the church is really just one huge MLM company. And it never pays taxes, bonus.

I used to work at a church. The pastor and leaders all had six figure salaries. I got paid 12 an hour and insurance paid. Then the pastor left, and they took the insurance, except for the dental coverage. They could help people vs. paying high salaries.

For me, the quicker math to do was when I realized that my tithing for a year was paying the budget for 2 wards and I started wondering where the rest of the tithing was going. Everyone in leadership positions (read the women) were constantly trying to figure out how to get the absolute most out of every precious dollar so the youth or ladies would benefit the most from our efforts. I think about it now and it is disgusting.

Idk why you saying ‘the buck stops here’ made me tear up but it did. Ending financial abuse from the church.

This not only happens in the Mormon Church, it's happening in other churches as well.

This is incredible. Thank you for putting this together. I had always thought it was so strange that various religious groups want to "replenish" a planet that's overpopulated. This makes total sense of it.

My parents are not wealthy. I grew up just above the poverty line. My dad retired and is still paying tithes. My mom still works in a kitchen at the age of 63, and still pays tithes every week. Early this year, my mom told my sister and I to not expect any presents for Christmas and to not give her any presents for her birthday because we’re in a “financial drought”. I rolled my eyes no less than a million times. 🙄

Congratulations! You graduated!
What we all paid was the tip of the iceberg. The church has 10x all that money in investments

I never knew the Light The World machines were a Mormon thing. An LDS woman I went to HS with posts about them on ig every Christmas, and now I know why.

Religious institutions, including but not limited to the Mormon church, often face a common challenge: the financial contributions received tend to have a limited effect on genuinely assisting those in need. In many religious communities, there is a tendency to promote their beliefs as the ultimate remedy for various personal challenges, which can result in individuals becoming entrenched within the organizational framework. This situation may leave them without substantial resources or strategies to effectively confront some of life's most pressing difficulties.

Wow! I never thought of it that way. I come from a Church of Christ family that goes back at least four generations, all of which would tithe at LEAST 10% income, plus extra for “special contributions”. The buck has stopped with most of my cousins and me, as we would rather give directly to charities and people we know in need. I’m glad to be out of that church, where we’d hear a sermon about “giving to God what is God’s” monthly.

Contributing financially is commendable; however, it is important to recognize that the Mormon Church operates as a business. The primary purpose of these donations tends to benefit the church itself rather than the broader community, except in instances where such contributions serve to enhance the church's public image.
