Seattle police officer recorded laughing, joking after pedestrian is fatally struck by cop car

SEATTLE (AP) — A city watchdog agency is investigating after a body-worn camera captured one Seattle Police Department union leader joking with another following the death of a woman who was struck and killed by a police cruiser as she was crossing a street.

Daniel Auderer, who is the vice president of the Seattle Police Officers Guild, responded to the Jan. 23 crash scene where another officer, Kevin Dave, struck and killed Jaahnavi Kandula, 23, in a crosswalk. Dave was driving 74 mph (119 kmh) on the way to an overdose call, and Auderer, a drug recognition expert, was assigned to evaluate whether Dave was impaired, The Seattle Times reported.

Someone spent 26 years putting their hopes and prayers into that dead girl.... changed her diapers, cheered her on as she took her first step, dropped her off on her first day at school in Kindergarten, celebrated her college graduation, celebrated her admission to grad school.

Watched her turn from a baby to a child, to a teenager, to a young adult... and eventually to a bloody corpse on the side of the road, worth only $11, 000-- less than the cost to repair the windshield and bumper on the police cruiser. 😢

Infuriatingly disgusting. Such a lack of respect and complete disregard for a person who’s life was lost at the hands of one sworn to protect and serve. I expect officers on the payroll of my tax dollars to take their job seriously and treat situations such as these with the utmost delicacy. To be so cavalier about such a tragedy, no matter the context, completely undermines my trust in this man. I would not want him investigating my murder or in fact have anything to do whatsoever with a crime I am the victim of.

The officer that hit her was not laughing, and he tried giving CPR and medical care before EMT’s arrived. However, the supervisor officer that’s laughing needs to be fired immediately, screw that guy.

In not surprised, it wasnt even an accident. She was on the sidewalk and he swerved to hit her knowing he wouldnt get in trouble. The dash cam is like watching someone play GTA. He targeted her and turned like 40 degrees to hit her.
