As someone who worked for Mitsubishi for nearly a decade, I can say two things. They are pretty reliable. They (mostly) look terrible.

Dude, when u completely removed those chrome pieces at the front, ure actually taking out Mitsubishi's current "Dynamic Shield" corporate identity... Its like deleting Kidney Grille from a Bimmer bro, I dont think that's the best way to improve it~ 😗

You have to give it to Mitsubishi though - they are very identifiable. You will never mistake a Mitsubishi for any other brand that's for sure.
As for the design, i must admit that it is kinda growing on me.

I think the title "the problem" isn't really accurate anymore. These design choices aren't problems, they're just weird or we're not used to it yet.

This "giant headlight with a separate slim headlight above it" trend needs to die. It didn't suit the Nissan Juke, Citroen C4 Cactus, Hyundai Kona, nor this thing. Please. Just get rid of it.

This "separate headlight" trend needs to die now. I think it was Nissan with the Juke who started this, but it was NEVER a pretty car, it simply doesn't work.

I'll have to disagree, the side lines do connect with the front facia if you drew them more straight

EDIT: Headlights won't work with front end design as rectangles; original design does fit better although having some issues with the lines on top of the headlight

I think the purpose of this design was not to look pretty but to stand out, get attention and also to look big and sorta premium. I think it does that quite well.
