Why Nordic Curls Are NOT ENOUGH to Build Massive Hamstrings 🤓💯

As many of you know I am a huge proponent of weighted hyperextensions for building big, strong hamstrings. With that, I often get asked about Nordic curls for hamstring training and how the hyperextension compares to Nordic curls specifically, especially in recent history with @TheKneesovertoesguy popularizing the Nordic curl exercise more so than it's ever been previously.

It seems that a lot of people are under the misconception that Nordic curls and Nordic curls alone are sufficient to work the hamstrings muscles in their entirety...and this is simply NOT the case. The reason for this is due to the anatomy of the human body, the anatomy of the hamstring muscles, and the nature of the Nordic curl exercise.

Even KOT guy, seemingly the biggest advocate for Nordics and definitely the guy who popularized them the most in recent years, says they aren't enough and to also do both hip hinges and leg curl machines.

It'd be so easy for him to attach that to his identity and brand and go the whole Joel Seedman route of dogmatism in a hyper specific niche, but he doesn't. Not that we need him to tell us such obvious advice, it's just nice that someone as trendy as him didn't let it go to his head and take advantage of it.

My main hamstring work still comes from hinges like deficit RDLs and Good Mornings, Nordic Curls are just the very tasty seasoning.

Pretty much an exercise for rapid hamstring recruitment, still worth doing

While there may be some benefit to training every function of a muscle, I doubt it's necessary for optimal growth. I don't think anyone says you need shoulder flexion for biceps or hip flexion for quads.
On the other hand, knee flexion is necessary because parts of the hamstring ONLY does knee flexion.

Either way though, hip extension is such a fundamental movement pattern that one should train it no matter what their goals are.

id say hand assisted nordics are great if people have no gym access(eg going back to home for me) . but one has to be true to himself and push these hard

Is it viable to only do front squat variations, plus single leg and isolation work? So not doing back squats at all. Just curious bc I enjoy doing front squats more

Hey, did you ever get a chance to try that slant-board/landmine hack squat variant we were talking about a few videos ago? and if so, what kind of weight were you able to get up to?
It feels good, but I'm curious how well its scales up.
