I was a lineman for 34 years and like my job you cannot afford any mistakes . You need to be on top of your game constantly. Not only for your safety but as for others . So therefore they earn every penny . When flying you want the most qualified individual you can get at the helm.

Here in Australia, its about 30% less than that and decreasing (one payrise every 4 years well below inflation and major carriers paying less than award wage until recently), plus you aren't getting into a jet without a few thousand hours.

It's not only the ability of the pilot, these guys have a 24% higher chance of developing cancer than the general population because of radiation exposure. They should be compensated accordingly.

Thanks for the information, the key points were they are picking up extra premium flights on days off and also adding in profit sharing to earn 7 figures. I’m assuming you were also talking about captain pay grade vs second officer.

Contracting is key, if you’re working for one employer and you have several years experience expect $200K annual salary if you’re contracting for various airlines and doing private work easily top 800K to $1 million plus save tons on tax
