What Makes This Singer Great? David Bowie

Few singers were as captivating, charismatic and legendary as David Bowie.

Possessing a knack for reinventing himself, David also knew how to tell a great story and he wrote songs that the whole world loved to sing.

His eccentric and theatrical persona complimented his melodramatic vocals and I would even call him one of the early pop/mainstream crooners.

Throughout David's storied career every time he tried something new, it elevated him to another level of success and popularity.

David went on to sell over 100 million records worldwide and Rolling Stone has named him one of the Greatest Artists of All Time.

David Bowie is the bomb, influenced everything from music to fashion. Was always fearlessly ahead of his time. Gorgeous unique voice. Love him. “Station to Station” is a masterpiece. Berlin trilogy. Gone too soon. Lovely man.

He’s such a huge inspiration to this day. Never stopped being innovative, broad vocal range, prolific and generous songwriter. Love his super deep voice in “I Feel Free” “China Girl” — can recognize his voice anywhere.Tin Machine, his ‘90s super group, was underrated, so cool.

I love his voice on “Cat People - Putting out Fire”, gets chills listening to him sing. He also chose to work with some of the greatest guitarists. He’s one of a kind true Renaissance man with a big heart.

I heard an interview with David Bowie where he talked about how he never set out to be a singer; he thought more of songwriter. He became a singer because he couldn't find anyone he wanted to sing his song so he morphed into that role.

David Bowie is phenomenal, an artist to the core. He’s not only influenced so many genres of music but generations of music fans. He is also very witty and kind and one of my favorite singers. Love love his unique voice especially his low range. He’s a beautiful man, so handsome and stylish.

I remember being told years ago the difference between a good singer and a great is a tear. Bowies singing on Wild is the Wind confirms his status as a great singer., It is sublime, haunting, longing and never fails to bring a tear.

I adore David Bowie, his voice is spectacular. He can sing so low and sound really sexy. So many great songs, I can listen to him for days. He was a great arranger/producer too and even resurrected the careers of Iggy Pop and Lou Reed. I think voice is so beautiful in “Lady Grinning Soul” “China Girl” and “Modern Love”. He also influenced more musical genres than anyone else, probably the most influential rock star.
His life is a work of art, there was a “David Bowie Is” traveling museum exhibit curated by Victoria and Albert Museum that is now VR app.

The songs he wrote and performed are so emotive, they pierce the soul. I greatly regret that I never saw him live.
