Exactly. People keep thinking making $100, 000 is huge, but not in the DMV!

I live in southern maryland and unless you are a millionaire, you are broke. Doesn’t matter your income or how you spend it. Your either homeless, middle class, or a millionaire. Those are the three options.

I live in Maryland. If you're single it's closer to 40%.

Make 120K. Live in MD but work in VA. Made 130K last year and made roughly 80K after taxes. Can confirm.

Dont forget sales tax and property tax. Usually end up spending at least 10k more on taxes a year.

That’s your fault for not running an LLC and lessening your tax burden through write offs.

Federal, State, AND Local tax is wild. At this point they’re just trying to see what else we’ll give them money for

That’s about right! Let’s not forget about benefits, 401k, etc. People will literally live check to check. That’s why I had to open a business to supplement my income.

Live in Maryland can confirm that your local tax, doesn’t necessarily have to be that high it’s depending on the county

Moral of the story:Never live in MD. I did and would not again. Also handgun ownership isnt legal, at least it used to not be legal. That by itself is a great reason not to live in MD. Left in 1996 and never looked back.

Marylanders here, I've always taken 30% of the gross and then divided by 26 to see what my paycheck will be with any job.

It's crazy that 29k is something that someone could realistically make in a year. Hell, in the 80's, it was actually a livable wage.

Yeah cost of living in the Metro area is crazy expensive though. 100k in Maryland really isn’t that much. It’s middle class at best
