How to Attach a Bolt Snap

Bolt snaps are used in a variety of ways with technical diving equipment configurations. With a few exceptions, the proper way to attach the snap to an object is to tie it on with braided nylon line (cave line). This is because nylon line is tough enough to withstand a great deal of abuse, yet can be easily cut in an emergency if the clip is jammed or entangled. When you can't afford to lose an item, you should tie its snap on with nylon line.

Thank you for this video! I needed help using a bolt snap for my keychain & pocketbook (not at all what most people need it for, haha). But your video was perfect! Videos like this (and the people who make them) are what makes YouTube so awesome! (and it avoids us having to ask people for help if we’re too embarrassed- like the time I needed a YouTube video to teach me how to sew a button!🤣) Thank you!!!

Thanks for this. There are tons of videos on how to tie a bolt snap to a hose, but hard to find how to tie to a small hole like a flashlight. I wish you showed some overlay information to make things super duper clear without having to read the article. For example, it's not obvious you're tying a square not. Someone might tie a "granny" not without realizing.

I scuba dive and my bungee cord around my inflator hose just broke. This saved the day

Wouldnt a split ring be a lot tidier ?? Or if you dont have a split ring I guess a cable tie or a chain screw link would do really nicely, and both the chain link and the split ring are available in stainless steel, ,, beats a bit of string and a knot.
