⛔Stop letting your arms move forward during the Triceps Pushdown. Moving the elbows forward shifts the resistance from the triceps to your back.

The Tricep connect to the back of the shoulder. If you let your arms come forward a bit, the triceps will be in their most lengthen position which sets you up for greater stimulus in the overall range of motion. If you want to work the Tricep exclusively in the shortened position, you can do that too, nothing wrong with that. But letting the weight drag your elbows forward a little bit isn’t bad. If you let them go too far forward that would obviously be bad, that would hit back like you said.

Better yet: flip around and do an overhead triceps pull. Greater gains.
