He didn’t know Jeff had been left alone for three months? That means he didn’t check on his son for three months. This was on both parent’s watch, not just his mom’s.

I think we need to start addressing this issue when we see children harming animals. Clearly there is a connection here. Maybe we can save lives by addressing this first.

Gotta give props to the actor who played Lionel in the Jeffrey Dahmer Story series on Netflix. He perfectly nailed his role and even mimicked Lionel's voice exactly as it sounds.

I respect this man for being here explaining and reveling all the truth he knew. Unlike Jeff's mother who just took off changed the name to disconnect from this. The father kinda sacrifices himself in the eyes of a public to pay respect to the families of the victims and also to endlessly show Jeff that he is not alone. Even after the death. Its such a terrible story. Thanks to the father we all can learn something.

I feel bad for Lionel. He has to live with the shame of what his son did. Speaking about it may be therapeutic for him. There is always premature judgements from strangers wanting to blame him, but he hasn't committed a crime and isn't to blame. His book is a mostly a self-analysis of trying to figure out where it all went wrong for his son. Proceeds from the book covered his legal fees and he donated the rest to the families of the victims. Lionel felt Jeff had some psychological issues and tried to help. Jeff manipulated everyone around him during his crime spree. Jeff seemed to be remorseful for his actions but he was still pretty detached from it all.

His difficult childhood is no excuse to his actions. There are thousands of children who had much worse childhood and don't become murderers. People who "feel" for Dahmer disgust me.

I can’t believe how much he sounds like the actor who plays him in the show

The fact that he’s talking about it so openly shows a lot of courage. We can’t imagine what he’s going through as a father but Jeff totally deserved it!

You've gotta give Lionel props and respect man for being the kind of dedicated, loving and genuine father that he is to Jeff. He truly wishes he could've prevented this tragedy, and he's just trying to make sense of it all. He loved his son.

I feel bad for his father no one can see this insanity coming he’s been treated like garbage for crimes he did not commit

His stepmom seems like a far better mother to him maybe she would've put some tough love on jeffrey if she was there early on...although i understand it is not her responsibility, maybe she would've put him on the right track because she has the motherly instincts that jeff needed.

We’re never going to understand why Dahmer did everything he did.

Back then, not a lot was known about serial killers. These parents probably didn't really know the signs at first. My heart goes out to them, and I am sure they loved their son and are just horrified that all this happened.

No one expects such wildness from their kid.
People don't want to believe that one day, maybe, their own kid could end up a Dahmer no matter what they do, so they blame the parents, teachers who didn't see the signs, the neighbors, et cetera.

Same happened with the Chris Watts case. Certain people blame the innocent, murdered wife, possibly scared to think that their seemingly perfect husband could turn on them with no warning, as Shanann's did.
They tell themselves the victim must've caused it somehow and that _they_ would've seen the signs. It's very ignorant, narrow-minded thinking.

Let’s not forget the amount of drugs his mother took in pregnancy!

I wonder what his brother is up to, I can’t even imagine how traumatized he must be knowing his older brother did what he did. I read somewhere he changed his last names legally to “hide” from it all. /:
