Regardless of your religion, it is still very inappropriate to ask a victim’s family to forgive him. Especially seeing as he had never apologized or shown that remorse himself.

That's so sad that his father asked for help and it left him to deal with the guilt. 😔

The sister he is referring to is Theresa Smith. She is the sister of Eddie Smith. Lionel thanked her in his book. She also participated in a BBC documentary in 1994. There is a video of her talking about befriending Lionel and his wife. She also visited Jeffrey in prison and he apologized to her. I can understand other family members of victims not being so forgiving but at least Theresa got to ask Jeffrey questions about her brother's and she got some closure.

I remember when the green river killer was sentenced and the victim's families gave impact statements. Gary didn't care and just stared straight ahead as people screamed at him. Then a father stood up and said "many people here hate you. I'm not one of them. I forgive you" and it made Gary break down and cry. There's power in forgiveness and hopefully the victim's and their families can find that peace someday

Jeffrey's father doesn't empathise with victims at all, He does it with his son but not the victims . his main concern is that protecting his son even after his death . and its really not ur place to ask for forgiveness for ur son, not justify his crime by stating abt Paul .
Go and say that what he did was terrible and wrong, and know this, and what he got he deserved .

honestly i don't think it's lionel's place to ask for forgiveness for his son's sins.. plus it's wayyy more complicated than just forgiving someone. the victim's families are haunted for the rest of their lives due to the heinous crimes that took away their loved ones. plus it's completely valid, AND EXPECTED, for their victims/victim's families not to forgive jeffrey dahmer. i mean, who would want to?

God ONLY forgives when someone repents. Which means turns away from it. Stops doing it, feels remorse and says Im sorry.
