The fact that he forgives his son - a cannibal, murderer, the monster of Milwaukee…
But not himself… That is just so sad. I can’t imagine what it’s like for him. The guilt, the grief. It must be absolutely awful - especially now with the documentary that came out, reliving everything.

Also props for the stepmom. She didn’t even birth Jeffrey, yet she speaks of him as if he is her blood. Imagine your stepson doing these disgusting things and you still consider him your son.

I can’t imagine the grief this man has gone through. The grief of finding out his son did these horrible things to real people. The grief of having a serial killer for a son. The grief of then losing your son because you can’t just automatically stop loving your kid, you love them for what they once were, your baby.

The victim's sister who is friends with Dahmer's parents is a great person. A very fine human being.

Bless Lionel Dahmer. He loved his son unconditionally and tried to help. He didn't know the extent of his son's issues and learned the details of his crimes with the rest of the world during the trial. He wrote a great book trying to analyze Jeffrey's behavior and where things could've gone wrong. Even in this video he is still trying to process what happened and make sense of it all.

I admire his courage to be so candid, take some accountability and ask for forgiveness. That's a good man.

It is so wrong trying to find faults in Lionel! Jeff said himself the only person to blame for his actions was Jeff only and no one else!

Parenthood is such a fascinating thing... He forgave his son, the one that did all those horrible things, years ago... But he is still not able to fully forgive himself despite all the time that past and despite the fact that he's not the one who made these acts...

Honestly l respect Lionel for even coming on and answering questions you can tell how much he loved his son its such a difficult thing to see the way an innocent child grew to do the things he did. I agree with what he said about a continuum. It’s almost as if he hasn’t ever come to terms with what has happened, bless him I hope he’s doing okay

Imagine being a parent of a serial killer, how would one feel if we were in his father's shoes. Must be beyond devastating 😢 💔

I've read all the books, including Lionel Dahmer's and I still believe that a lot of Jeffreys problem at puberty grew out of a mental illness inherited from his mentally ill mother, coupled with the pills she took during her pregnancy.
I remember having really dark thoughts when I was about the same age as Jeff did - around 12 -13. I don't remember wanting to kill anyone or thing outside of myself but I did feel strange and suicidal. Now, looking back I realise it was depression probably brought on by hormones etc. So, to me, the part of Jeff's puberty that was abnormal was where his thoughts took him. His took him outside of himself, and I think that's a chemical aberration that was born out of both nature (moms pills) and nurture. (Her leaving him and taking his brother.) His mom was so odd. I think it affected him a great deal. I believe a thing like that at a time like that, was
like waving a red cape at an enraged bull. Huge red flag.

It is such a tragic situation. I feel so much sorrow for the victims and their families and I also feel sad for Jeff and his family. Seeing him as a kid hits home that at one point he was an innocent kid. So tragic.

Lionel has shown nothing but love and grace for both the victims and their families and his son. I really hope he continues to do well

I feel bad that people want to blame his parents for not noticing- who thinks their child is a serial killer? Especially with his parents of their age.

The enormity of his crimes is shockingly staggering and devastating – involving cannibalism, carrying a human head in a backpack, and actually cooking and consuming human flesh. This behavior goes beyond insanity. It's not surprising that people find it difficult to forget, as such stories are not encountered every day. The details are extremely disturbing and almost unbelievable

As a father myself, I don't see how a parent ever really gets the wind back in their sails after something like this, at least not totally.
