Atalanta, everybody! Kicked ass, took names, adopted on two separate occasions, had a fondness for shiny stuff. This is her story!

I like to think Atalanta didn't really care about the golden apples and just went after them cause she really didn't want to kill the cute dork Hippomenes so was looking for any believable excuse not to win.

"At the wedding reception"
Hippomenes: Alright, it's time for the mother of the bride to make her speech!
Bear: RoOaOAOR.

In some versions Atalanta was in fact in love with him when they met on a hill and he complimented her skill in archery. What was interesting about it was he never added “for a woman” to his compliments and that’s what has her fall in love with him. Dude was a massive dork too. Think ray of sunshine bean who is unbelievably shy. He’s that.

I find it hilarious that the ship of 'dorky smart nice boy' and 'hot strong badass girl' has literally been with us as a ship since the concept of shipping has existed to the point that the fucking Goddess of shipping was the first to like it. That's how you know a ship dynamic has staying power.

Awww that was actually like, a really sweet ending. I think it’s fitting that Atalanta ends up with a guy who knowingly acknowledges how capable she is, she realizes this, and elects to be with him. Also, their “bang in Zeus’s temple” ending is peak newly wed nonsense and I’m here for it.

I love how surly mamma bear looks when Atalanta is introducing her husband to her parents.

Like "This tiny man is your mate? How will he catch fish and get honey with those teeny paws?"

She forgot the 3rd way a womens life could go.

3: Apollo falls in love with you and you turn into an inanimate object. (Probably a flower)

Really love the group of hunter dads that were like "man this is a cool baby we should take her" and we know they showed up to every wrestling match with homemade posters

so in the testosterone-overloaded sausage fest that is ancient Greek mythology, there's actually a couple of a smart, dorky dude and a strong, badass girl?
that's new.

That was actually equal parts awesome an sweet. I feel sorry for Meleager, though. Dude was bona fide good guy and deserved better.

I'm shocked one of the few instances where Aphrodite's meddling is actually a net-positive

Zeus: *Turns Atalanta and Hippomenes into lions*
Hippomenes: So, wanna continue where we left off?
Atalanta: Sure

Atalanta: "YOU!, I learned it by watching you"

Atalanta: "If you win, you take my hand. If I win, I take your head."

Bear mom: "That's my girl!"

I prefer your interpretation of how she got "distracted", especially since she tried to convince him not to run initially because she didn't want to kill him, and then she's like, "well, he's cute and he wanted this so hard he actually went to a goddess for help and came loaded for bear, why not?"

One of the headers was “Atalanta’s Murder Race”

Atalanta: almost catches up to Hippomenes.
Hippomenes: YEET!

I love how bear-mom stays in Atalanta’s life to love and support her. Very good bear-parenting, you don’t see Baloo doing that. 10/10, would allow my daughter to be raised by kindly bears again.
