The fact that some people wish for disorders like these, so that they could be "different, " is more unsettling than the disorders themselves.

I recommend the book "the man who mistook his wife for a hat" it's a really interesting compilation of stories of people with unique mental disorders.

I thought I was the star of my own reality show for a while, and it really stressed me out.
But then I realized I was only a side character. That was a relief.

I actually met someone with Truman Syndrome! I was in the ward for attempting to *unalive* myself, and while there, I made a friend. This friend was very friendly and nice, however they were convinced that they were on a TV show. He was convinced I was a secret therapist sent to help him, because of the way I spoke I guess. He kept laughing, telling me that the gig was up, and that he knew there was cameras everywhere. He insisted that every time I denied it, that I was just trying to hide the reality show. He genuinely believed that the ward was fabricated just for him, and he wanted the show to be over. I think about that guy often, and I hope he’s doing better.

Maybe people who had Truman in medieval times thought they were in a play

Capgras Syndrome is one of the scariest disorders I've heard, like, imagine being stuck in a state of extreme paranoia against those whom you've loved throughout your entire life.

It's quite common for Dementia patients to talk to their own reflections. If you go to a Dementia care home, you'll never find mirrors as decorations. Some sufferers can get frustrated and even violent as the person they're talking to is not responding correctly or repeating what they say.

Of course I didn’t actually have Truman syndrome but when I was younger I was completely convinced that I was in a movie or show and everything was done on purpose and my parents would tell me when I’m 18. I even would see someone who looked like someone I knew and then think “why would they cast someone as an extra that looks so similar to the main character’s friend” idk why I was so convinced.

I have schizophrenia and Capgras is my most common delusion when I’m in psychosis. I lived in fear for over ten years because I thought if they found out I know they aren’t the person they claim to be, they would torture me, so I said nothing and just played along. I am almost constantly paranoid but being on the right meds and talking about it has helped a lot.

When I finally lose it completely. I hope I’m one of the laughy ones, not one of the screamy ones.

I’m so fascinated by the human brain and how each person perceives the world and how they fit into the world around them. It never ceases to amaze me.

Pretty sure "Dead" from the band Mayhem had Cotard Delusion.
He had some kind of accident as a kid and was clinically dead for a few minutes and was revived. Ever since he believed that he was STILL actually dead and tried to commit suicide on many occasions but was always stopped in time.
After he finally committed suicide, the guitarist took a picture of the scene. You can see it on one of their album covers.

my grandmother had capgras syndrome, its absolutely horrifying. she felt like everyone and everything around her was replaced and wasnt real, she nearly killed her dog believing it was something evil that was out to get her. she would get violent if people aproched her, attempting to talk to her would cause her to break down crying and begging for people to leave.

Its awful but "Jumping Frenchman Syndrome" is for some reason the most hilarious name they could've given it.

If I'm not actually in a Truman show, how do you explain the bus I wanna ride taking off right before I come? They're just waiting for me to come so the bus can take off.

After being hospitalised having psychosis I can understand most of these on some level. Truly scary that for these it usually doesn’t end
