Is Anakin More Powerful Than Luke Skywalker?

It is often stated that Luke was more powerful than Anakin Skywalker. But is this actually true? According to George Lucas, both Skywalkers had the same power potential in the force. That being said, Anakin was also the chosen one, which may have allowed him to achieve some additional feats, such as subduing literal gods on Mortis. However, it is also true that Luke managed to achieve some astonishing feats with the force and his lightsaber including walking on lava while fighting a monster, fighting an entire army of Yuuzhan vong, and even moving an artificial black hole. Other than his domination of the ones on Mortis, Anakin has few force feats that come close to these feats, meaning in my opinion, Luke achieved a greater level of power.

Luke's feats here are all legends though, and if we ever got a legends comic series about anakin, I have a strong feeling he would be just as if not more powerful being the literal chosen one.

George had also stated that Luke's Power Potential was Boosted by the Force after his Father Fell into Darkness, and that he was to Anakin what Anakin was to Yoda (in his Youth, around 300). George changed his mind too often for it to matter to anyone who pays attention, as he commissioned the Thrawn Trilogy, the Expanded Universe, and Both Versions of the Clone Wars. The Republic Comics and Clone Wars Miniseries were his Intial Take on the Clone Wars, and Filoni's Clone Wars was his second take on it. They were almost Polar Opposites, and stirred up as much controversy for the Clone Wars part of the Timeline as Halo Reach did with its contradiction of the Novel "The Fsll of Reach."

Grandmaster Luke in the EU achieved his full potential in the force and became one of the most powerful force users in galactic history. He fulfilled his potential. Anakin on the other hand, being the chosen one could’ve become arguably stronger than GM Luke and had he achieved his full potential in the force and never fallen to the dark side I believe Anakin could’ve accomplished even greater feats than his son due to being born from the force

Anakin defeated gods in canon. Luke used a force mirage in canon. Darth Vader ripped a ship out of the sky and ripped it apart with a simple hand gesture in canon. Luke couldn't even lift his X-Wing out of the Dagobah swamp in canon. Anakin/Darth Vader wins.

I mean, anakin had the entire jedi temple to teach him, and a padawan, as well as a war to deal with, that he was trained in for half of his lifetime in the light

The reason as to why Anakin could do that was because he was standing on a force nexus and it gave him a massive amp. Luke could do the same

I've always gone with the idea that Luke is more powerful in Legends while Anakin is more powerful in canon, but since both continuities have their ups and downs and wild deviations from each other, I can see how saying both characters have the same power potential can come across as a definitive answer.

Yeah this is apples and oranges. If we stick to canon then Anakin, if legends then luke, unless we look at Full potential/Son of Suns Anakin then theres no contest.

To ask a question like this you gotta establish some rules and restrictions.

I agree Luke ACHIEVED a higher level of power, but if Anakin never turned to the dark side/became so conflicted I think he would have bested luke because he was the chosen one

I remember hearing that the Sequel series George Lucas had wanted to make would’ve ended with the reveal that Leia was the real chosen one and not Anakin, as her leadership of the New Republic would finally bring balance to the force.

The big difference between the two is that Luke was able to fully realize his potential, while Anakin turned to the dark side, lost all of his limbs, and had his connection to the Force cut quite drastically. So Luke did become more powerful than Anakin ever was, but Anakin had the same potential to become just as powerful as Luke did, or even more powerful.
