Nobody Wants To Work Anymore?

Thanks for tuning in. I wanted to share my thoughts on this ridiculous meme. I don’t think it’s as simple as “no one wants to work anymore”. I think a large part of it is there’s little motivation to work a 9-5 and Gen-Z doesn’t wanna fall in the same trap the millennials did. Thanks again for watching and commenting!

Our choices
A) work a job and not be able to afford anything
B) not work a job and not be able to afford anything
The choice is easy

Retirement is also a trap. If you can work less and live your life, just do it. I live a simple frugal life, and I enjoy it.

I'm a boomer and I saw the American dream die off. I am seeing every generation fighting back at corporate America. People are tired of working for abusive employers. That is why we are seeing a drive for a new labor movement.

Very well said. 1) Wages aren't keeping up with inflation 2) you can lose your 401k when the economy tanks 3) constant layoffs across almost every industry 4) you'll most likely be dealing with a boss that doesn't care about you or your income and will refuse to give proper raises 5) the list goes on and on. SO MANY reasons people have lost trust in the entire job market.

work sucks, I don't find any fun or reward in doing it, I'm just counting down the clock, spending 10 hours of my day exhausted just so I can come home, do nothing have nothing, try to enjoy 30minutes of a tv show and go to sleep. who the feels motivated to live at the bottom doing something they hate. That said I get that we all have to work anyway.

If you're getting older, we've been the frog in the slow to boil pot. The youngsters see it and know better than to jump in.

Why do people find it hard to grasp? Previous generations could live a life of abundance in a single income household. Nowadays it’s basically reverted back into serfdom. Work to feed and house yourself, nothing more. Forget having a family. Awesome deal.

I’m 34 and get this. Burned out, work way too hard to not be qualified for anything. Housing and inflation have destroyed the motivation for many, don’t forget student loans!

The incentives are not there anymore . Therefore we do the bare minimum to survive and get by through sedating and distracting ourselves.

Totally agree and totally true. I'm happy to work hard if it means I get paid well and I can live a comfortable and secure life. I'm happy to be paid less if I work less. But a lot of people I know are working really hard for pennies in traditional jobs. A lot of people dedicate their whole lives to work so they can retire in poverty. People in their 30s working full time and still living with roommates, or having a 2 hour commute to work because rent in the city is too expensive. It's absurd.

Any person working full time in ANY job, even minimum wage, should be able to afford a modest apartment near their place of work, food on the table, an occasional treat, a couple small vacations a year, healthcare, and enough left over for savings and investments. That's not a big ask. I hate that some people view it as "entitled" to expect that every human being has security and dignity. Productivity is up, but wages are not, which means workers are making MORE money for the companies they work for, while their quality of life actually goes down, and what little money they have just gets lost to inflation. How is that fair?

And you're totally right about the entrepreneurship thing, too. Many young people are starting their own businesses or going down the content creator path or looking into passive income streams, because it allows them to make money on their own terms, and the sky's the limit as far as earnings when you're not relying on getting a raise from your greedy boss who doesn't care if you live or die. Hopefully in the next decades, the rise of new entrepreneurs and the falling number of people willing to be wage slaves will start to chip away at the monopolies created and maintained by mammoth companies like Amazon, which are presently making it impossible for many smaller businesses to stay afloat.

It's all about creating a future where actual human beings thrive, instead of all the power going to a handful of morally corrupt billionaires who would charge money for the air we breathe if they could. A revolution is coming.

its not that people dont want to work anymore, people are just waking up to the fact life is full of so much more than working full time to pay for things you dont really want or need, people are moving away from keeping up with appearances. the flintstones, jetsons, and jones's.

This 'nobody wants to work' narrative feels like a marketing campaign by big business. Who in their right mind would want to work for a business that treats you like chattel, barely pays enough to survive, expects you to work overtime for no additional pay, refuses to increase wages enough to even cover inflation, fires you just in time to avoid paying severance (if they even offer such a thing), on and on and on. I can't believe there is anyone left willing to work under these conditions. If the interview process worked the other way around, most companies would get laughed out of the room. The real narrative is that no one wants to be a slave.
