Two of these modern more affordable zero emission all electric choices include the FIAT 500e and VW e-Golf. The 2015 FIAT 500e sells for $32,300 and has an 87 Mile Range and gets an average 122 MPGe. The 500e is fun to drive thanks to a 111 HP and 147 lb-ft of torque thanks to an 83 kW Electric Motor and 24 kW Lithium Ion Battery and a 2,980 lbs. Curb Weight. The FIAT 500e comes with 7 Airbags standard and is available with deals like $2,000 Cash Allowance and a $199 per month Lease for 36 mo. with only $999 down and a California Clean Access Sticker availability.

The 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf ushers in the all new MKVII 7th generation Golf platform with an all-electric power train. The battery powered VW starts at $35,445 and has an 83 Mile Range and gets an average 116 MPGe thanks to a 115 HP and 199 lb-ft of torque 85kW Electric Motor and 24.2 kW Liquid Cooled Battery and a 3,090 lbs. Curb Weight. The e-Golf gets a trick set of driving modes: Normal, Eco and Eco+ which limit the current coming from the battery and help to conserve the e-Golf's range. When juice runs out the e-Golf can regain an 80% Fast Charge in only 30 minutes while it takes 4 hours to charge the battery 100% on a 240V outlet.

Nice to see an EV review from a fellow EV owner. A lot of "regular" reviewers focus on the wrong things...

I have the 500e. You can remove the Tom Tom nav and put it in the glovebox. Since I rarely need navigation, it's a good solution to what I too agree is an awkward spot for it. Also I really wanted the e-Golf. It was the best driving experience than all the EVs I tried but the price on the $87/mo fiat lease in March made the fiat the better choice.

The 500e does also have regenerative braking.

I'm surprised that she totally glossed over the fact that the Fiat 500e is quick and very fun to drive. The VW e-Golf has leisurely, Prius-like acceleration. However, it's a larger, more practical vehicle with better laid out controls.

nice thorough review, almost makes me run and buy one, but not yet.

I'm pretty sure the e-Golf does not have a liquid cooled battery. It's passively cooled.

I wish you would’ve compared the two vehicles in this video

Why have music? We want to hear what is being said, not 'entertained'. So many videos just don't get it. Silence is golden, as they say.

Only California and Oregon have electric car infrastructure? EVs can be charged anywhere there's an electric outlet, and most people charge at home overnight.

This may be a dumb question, but I was wondering: for a fully electric car, is it bad for the battery to charge it more often than when the battery is almost completely depleted? Like say charging after 1/4 or 1/2 of the battery is used so that if something happens and you need 3/4 or 1/2 of the full range you don't have to worry?

This is not really a fair test, a better test would be a VW E-Up! vs a Fiat 500e not an E-Golf

I would've picked up the fiat, but it's too small for me, I have 2 kids in car seats, so dropping them off at school would be a pain in the Fiat. I already have a 2004 Golf R32 so I'm used to the Golf size and driving dynamics.

Why is the trading value so bad compare to a Honda civic

This woman knows nothing about cars. Only difference on the E is the front diffuser? Not at all. Front and rear bumpers, side skirts are different. So are the wheels and interior! Buttons for gear selector instead of knob

Nitpicking: 4 inch that's on the tires of all the Fiat 500e, cut to an orange 500e w/o orange accented sport wheels...

I am looking at the Nissan electric cars. When one can get more than 105 miles in range driving at 70 miles per hour on a 100% charge with use of air conditioning I may likely make my shift. I am hoping for a gasoline range extender being put into a Nissan electric car. I would like to get over 90 miles to the gallon in the first 90 miles of range.

I will likely keep my gasoline car for use in trips longer than 100 miles in range.
