Toyota and Honda are generally the first two brands we think of when it comes to dependable, often class-leading vehicles. While both brands were a little late to the EV game, they’ve finally arrived with two midsize electric SUVs: tThe Honda Prologue and the Toyota BZ4X, which is also sold as the Subaru Solterra. In this video, Edmunds’ Clint Simone dives deep into both SUVs to find out if this is a win for Honda or Toyota.

Do you think the Honda Prologue is one of the most appealing electric SUVs on sale today? Let us know in the comments!

The Honda is so much better looking that its worth the extra money without the rebate. What in the world was Toyota thinking when designing the exterior of the vehicle?🤷‍♂🤷‍♂🤷‍♂

The BZ4X is like somebody just went into the back room, threw some parts together and said "there you go, there's your EV." They obviously really didn't want to do it but had to come up with something. It will be interesting to see where they all end up because they're just piling up on the lots.

Thumbs up on your video, but I wish you always put the stats side by side so that I don't have to keep remembering what the previous stat was for one of the cars. You had neglected this for the storage and for the price. No problem though, I really like the manner in which you do your comparisons and comparison videos, which don't neglect to choose a winner, are enjoyable to me

Toyota did not and still does not have its heart and soul in EVs. They prefer Hybrids. However, Toyota definitely did not meet its normal quality standards on this BZ4X and should not have shamed its reputation with this offering. On the other hand, Honda did a much better job with its first EV offering albeit GMs considerable help. The only problem is Honda will develop its own drive train and platform for their next model so, how long will they maintain this model?

Purely from a looks standpoint, I think the Honda looks fantastic; inside and out. The Toyota, however is just plain weird for weird’s sake.

Ummm Edmunds the Toyota BZ4X was made just for compliance. It is a total joke even Toyota knows that.

I have a 2024 Toyota Prius Hybrid AWD and I am six feet tall. I have issue seeing gauge cluster and the seating position and steering wheel is comfortable for me.

As usual, Edmunds can't give GM the props they deserve. God forbid actually including the more interesting looking Blazer in the test as it would whoop the butt of the Toyota, but the automotive press would never want to show a vehicle from GM ever beating a Toyota no matter how good newer Chevys are. They have to hide that fact by using the Prologue.

Ouch @edmunds you didn’t mention sunroofs (or lack thereof of a real one) at all.

The BZ4X is a great car if you never road trip and have a garage to charge it.

Don't know about honda, but few month ago Toyota was offering 16500 rebate. This effectively reduced price to around 32k-34k. No wonder bz4x were selling like hot cakes. So here, value wise Toyota was much better.

You said like 7 references to your height, "short, " -- you're like inch shorter than American average height. Hope you love your height, haha! Oh, and great car review. I have your top rated Ioniq 5 and LOVE it!

Probably two of the WORST evs you can buy. Youre paying for a toyota or honda badge, and if youre paying for those badges... theres nothing more to say. Also the description calling these dependable and class leading???? they just came out how can you say they are dependable? You literally are making stuff up. Both are slow, subpar EVs.

The market share fact is that :
People watch the reviews, and despite, buying the most preferable badge

Thank you
see you later

The Honda Prologue is actually a GM product with Honda badging. The Toyota BZ4X is a Subaru with Toyota badging so it doesn’t have the performance, dependability and reliability of a genuine Toyota product. I’d steer clear from both vehicles.

I always find it funny that Toyota tends to have polarizing interiors. Sometimes good, sometimes just AWFUL, the BZ4X and by Extension what they're making Subaru do with the Solterra (given its the same vehicle with different badges), is one of the latter. The infotainment screen is the only highlight, everything else looks like its designed to be the exact opposite of ergonomic.
