Both!! I started with light clubs for shoulder rehab plus pretty cheap for a plastic pair online.

I got both right away a 10lb mace and 2- 2lb clubs. I didn't have any problems. Im glad I did as it helped stretch out different ligaments. The clubs helped with streching and reaching behind my back and neck. Where as the mace helped more with balance strength in my arms.

I think heavy clubs should def. go first. The adaptive gains you'll get from working through 2 or even 3 different weights on clubs will pay off when you move to the mace. Because the mace tends to be "lighter", people usually think they can swing for a lot of time, but their tendons and ligaments are many times not ready for this type of load and tendonitis becomes a real issue for many.

I bought a pair of indian clubs (2lb each) first and then got a 15 lb mace. It worked really well for me. After two weeks with clubs, I had new mobility in my shoulders I didn't know I was missing. About two weeks with the mace, I can do 360's for 6 sets of 3 minutes, and I can start to rep one handed 360's with decent control. It's been a good progression for me, though definitely humbling starting with something labeled 2 pounds

I would love to see you, Mark Wildman, and the Flowing Dutchman discuss macework.

I'm 1, 71m (5, 67ft) at 84kg (184lbs). I've been training with kettlebells for about ten years now and can easily handle workouts with 2 x 24kg, Swings with a 32kg. I'm interested in starting mace training. What weight would you recommend?
