Cortado Versus Flat White #espresso #coffee

Flat white or whatever weirdo names coffee nerds come up with is espresso with steamed milk and no foam. And a “real” Cortado is not what you made. A cortado is essentially a proper macchiato except instead of a “dollop” of foam on top. It’s a “dash of frothed milk” that’s what a Spaniard barista told me last time I was in Madrid. But what I noticed owning a few shops in the States. Is that beverages vary in size, proportion etc. based off of the demographics of the populace around the shop. Lower income areas, have less people who have travelled abroad so for example they’re less likely to know about different beverages and all of that bullshit. It’s a weird thing for sure.

I generally see a flat white as a cappuccino sized latte texture espresso drink. Nowadays modern espresso bars that know what they’re doing will make silky milk.

In Spain cortado is just a splash of milk in an espresso. The idea is cortar - " cut " the coffe with a bit of milk.

A 50/50 coffe-milk is café con leche. I think you call that a Latte, not sure.

i don't know why you need to misuse terms from other languages to name stuff. a cortado is espresso with a splash of milk ("cortar el café", to "cut it")
