How to actually tell if you’re OVERTRAINING

Here’s how to actually tell if you’re overtraining. If you aren’t able to increase the weight on the majority of your exercises after 3 or 4 weeks, you’re most likely overtraining. Now obviously you could’ve just hit a plateau, but if you’re constantly struggling to progress in the gym and you feel like crap and you’ve been doing the same workout with the same weight for weeks on end, your muscles just aren’t able to recover from that amount of volume you won’t be able to build muscle. Now this could be a result of poor sleep, hydration, eating, or you might just be doing too much in the gym, but remember progressive overload is the key to building muscle, so if you’re not progressing, drop the ego, drop the volume, focus on adding weight to your exercises and get back on track.

I hope that helps and subscribe for more lifting tips! #Gym #Shorts

Merry Christmas Eve everyone!

Also just a heads up, training volume differs for everyone. Depending on your recovery, genetics, and a whole lot of other factors, you may be able to do much more than someone else or much less. So instead of basing it on the number of sets per week, take a look at whether or not you're able to add weight consistently to each exercise. If not, chances are, you're muscles just aren't able to recover from the amount of volume applied to them. In that case, get rid of some of the junk volume and just focus on going hard and heavy on the key exercises in your routine!

I took 5 days off. Christmas and it snowed in Seattle. And my muscles are more firm and I sleep better. I need to restructure my workouts. Go hard but rest hard too. Constantly learning and being open minded is the key to everything not just fitness.

For me the first sign is excrutiating insomnia. Im talking like 3-5 hours of sleep max. I remember ignoring it because I felt ok physically so I would train hard asf and make my insomnia worse.

I been hitting the gym for 3 years my first year was amazing last 2 years I literally look less fit, I went back to a 5x5 and all the weights half what Im used to and I went from 6 days to 3 and I already look and feel 100 % better and more confident, I thought I'd be embarrassed but I think a few months from now I'll be happy I stepped back.

When I first started I got to the point where I was getting very ill any time I did even a single workout. I wasn’t eating enough and it wasn’t as if I was doing it every single day, I just wasn’t giving myself as much rest as a beginner should be getting. I changed to StrongLifts 5x5 three times a week and it was way better.

Thanks for the tips Max! I've had something similar recently... turns out it's because I forgot to add more weight and my poor sleep schedule for the last couple of days... Just increased my weight today and I felt much better.

If you are training for hypertrophy, it’s about reps too. If you do a hard eccentric, hold and stretch movement with bench 135 - 2 hard sets of 8 and 7, the next time you should go up a few good reps like 10 and 8. Ego is huge in the gym. So many things to adjust, pay attention.

I used to can do only 9 pull ups and it last long for 2 months, cause I feel no gain, also I feel frustated but I decided to take rest 48 hours in every week, and now I can do 15+ pull ups

Most beginners don't overtrain from sets or reps...they lift too heavy and have minor injuries that take days to heal. Love Coach Greg's commentary on overtraining.

Check out Sean Nalewanyj video called the dangers of progressive overload for the best way to build muscle and increase strength

I faced a burnout where my mind was just not willing to even pickup the waits! Taking a week+ off, and restructuring my workouts!

Muscles are supposed to work. Volume does build muscle. Weight doesn't mean you are always building muscle.
