Special occasions often turn into battlegrounds. Birthdays, weddings, even Christmas—somehow, they manage to create chaos, ensuring the focus shifts back to them. Even something as simple as walking together becomes a power play, as they stride ahead, leaving others struggling to keep up.

Their jealousy knows no bounds—not even when it comes to their own children. If their child receives praise, they downplay or dismiss it, unable to tolerate anyone else in the spotlight.

Communication is equally frustrating. Ask them a question, and they respond with another, dodging accountability. Dry begging—hinting at what they want instead of asking directly—keeps others on edge. Then there’s the silent treatment, a punishment designed to make you beg for their attention.

From road rage to unnecessary drama, weaponised incompetence to mocking noises, their behaviour is as exhausting as it is bizarre. And when confronted? They act like a helpless victim in a mess they created.

Sometimes they walk behind. It's about the attention and control. Whatever is regular they do whatever they can that is different to stand out. If you walk a normal pace they either speed up or slow down.

The narc i know says: i cant walk too fast, I'll lose muscle mass.

I agree with all of these, although I have to say my narc ex girlfriend used to do the opposite of walking ahead, rather slowly plodding behind, particularly if we were in a hurry.

Setting the bar high for you, then moving the goal posts. While doing whatever they like . Hiding and damaging your stuff. Denying their actions even when you've seen it with your own eyes. Taking over pets, children when it looks like their achievements are being noticed by others. They steal your limelight, ideas and portray them as their own. They suck the marrow out of life. Quietly gather what you need and run.

1 is a bit early but I had a war dream and got so excited I tore my bed apart someone was with me and for the 1st time I wasn’t protecting the person, I was protecting myself. That’s the first time that’s ever happened. If you suffer long enough you don’t even notice the pain of it. My pain button is gone. Ms Shaw your very basic lessons change you, if you study and listen. I’m so glad I’m not hooked or cooked by it anymore. I still want to go get them! But it’s not nearly as bad as 8 months ago. I remember being so mad that I’d let it happen thinking I could work it out by trying harder. Just about everything I used to believe about people was wrong. I really did like people my entire life. Even the ones who were very difficult or mean. I’m gonna work on still being my best but just for my time left here
