Did you know that Charlie’s Angels actress Kate Jackson can actually be credited with inspiring the series’ iconic title and that she’s still around today at the age of 73? Kate Jackson is a television actress who rose to fame thanks to her time playing the character of Sabrina Duncan on the hit 1970s action series Charlie’s Angels. When producer Aaron Spelling cast Kate on the series, it was being referred to as The Alley Cats. It was a suggestion from Kate that inspired the series’ more iconic name: Charlie’s Angels.

Kate was born in Alabama and had dreams of being an actress at a young age. She chose to drop out of college to pursue stardom. Her first major role came via the supernatural soap opera Dark Shadows in 1970. The following year, she could be seen on the big screen in one of that series’ multiple theatrical adaptations. Kate continued performing on Dark Shadows through 1971, after which time other television roles came the actress’s way.
It was a gig on the series The Rookies that brought Kate to the attention of producer Aaron Spelling, who would go on to cast her in Charlie’s Angels. Charlie’s Angels ended up being the vehicle that rocketed Kate to stardom. Following her time on the series, she could be seen on the 1980s series Scarecrow and Mrs. King.
While Scarecrow and Mrs. King wasn’t as successful as Charlie’s Angels, it proved that Kate was an actress with longevity. Sadly, Kate’s role on the series, as well as the series itself, was forced to come to an end in 1987 as a result of a tragic diagnosis.
