The actress was born in the small town of Braddock, Pennsylvania in 1953, where she spent the earlier years of her childhood until her family moved to California. There, she majored in Theatre Arts for the Rio Hondo College and then went to study at the University of California, Riverside. Her career break happened when she starred in a Lipton Ice Tea Commercial in 1974. However, she only rose to Hollywood's stardom after being offered Julie McCoy's character in the sitcom "The Love Boat", when she was only 23 years old.

The TV show was mostly inspired by the book Love Boats, written by Jeraldine Saunders, who was the first woman to achieve the post of cruise director in the Princess Cruises group. The storyline followed the ship's crew – one of which was the cruise director Julie McCoy, the character portrayed by the actress – and its affluent passengers. Filming for "The Love Boat" occurred mainly aboard Princess Cruises' ships and had the actual cruise passengers as extras. Eventually, the show grew to become very popular and so did the stars who interpreted the main characters. However, in her case, stardom led to addiction and in the end got her fired from "The Love Boat". Join Facts Verse as we try to understand the sad reason you don't see Lauren Tewes anymore.

Who could forget the double whammy of "Love Boat" and then "Fantasy Island" every week! The one day a week my little girl could stay up late to watch TV. Kimberly loved both and would mimic Herve saying "Zee plane! Zee plane!" before he did. Silly as it was, "Love Boat" was glorious! Who says something has to be world-shaking or relevant to be entertaining?

I loved Julie then and I still do...no matter what the issues, I don't think the show would have been successful without her 💗💗
Love you Julie 🥰🥰🥰

Julie McCoy was and will always be the world's most famous Cruise Director. I have been cruising for 45yrs and Lauren's character "Julie" is still referenced all over the world aboard ships. No doubt about it, "Julie" is the best! I have always wanted to meet Lauren in person :)

This story would be more believable to me if you could pronounce her last name correctly, I grew up around the corner from her family, was in boy scouts with her brother so I know the last name is pronounced "TWEEZ" not "TWOS"

I liked Julie. It's sad that Lauren let drugs control her life to the point of ruining her career, but that's why it's called dope, not smarts. People need to learn not to let others pressure you into something you know is wrong. I didn't let peer pressure control me. I ended up alone, but still much better off than I would have if I had given in to it.

They should have helped her. She was amazing on the Love Boat. I don't like to watch the later seasons without her, it's just not the same.

Lauren Tewes was definitely my favorite 💯🙌.... I was very disappointed when she left.. I didn't even want to watch anymore... It's hard to get used to someone else if they didn't originally played the roll in the first place... 🤷‍♀️Just my opinion

So many great memories watching this show with my Mom as a youngster & loved all the guest appearances by some at the time were either barely known or were well known but it benefited the show in many ways & it was also great to the unknown actresses & actors obviously & the known actresses/actors. There was so many successful TV shows back in those days & i grew up on Batman, Fall Guy, Dukes Of Hazzard, Knight Rider, A-Team, Riptide, Forest Rangers, Starsky & Hutch, Magnum P.I., Miami Vice & a lot more.

After 45 years of watching the Love Boat, this is the first time I've ever heard her called Lauren 2'S. I always heard it was Lauren pronounced "Tweeze". Does anyone else say Lauren 2's? She even pronounces it tweeze. Even TV Guide says tweeze.
