I always keep consumer law up my sleeve, especially at apple. A good example is that when I bought my 2017 MacBook Pro (with Apple Care), one of the keys had the infamous sticky key fault due to a manufacturing issue. So I went in (keeping in mind this is within the two weeks refund window of Apple's own policy), I asked them about it, they gave me the option to repair and I told them that I simply don't have 3 days to spare (this was when I was on my first semester at Uni), so had a lot of work to clear and genuinely had no time to wait for apple to mess about for 3 days. So I said that under consumer law it does say that I'm also entitled to a replacement given that the product is faulty due to the manufacturer/retailer. Guess what? Got a free replacement right there and then. Although I will say that apple care allows you to have the priority as you said. If you seek to get a repair online or a replacement online outside of Apple Care, they'd ignore you. So unfortunately the consumer law only seems to really work down the phone or in store from my experiences. Great video though! A lot of people need to learn about consumer law, especially if you're really into tech!

An important point to note: Apple consumer law is only applicable if you purchased the item DIRECT from Apple themselves. If you purchased it from another retailer, like John Lewis, or PC World/Currys etc, they will tell you that you have to go back to the original place of purchase.... and good luck trying to get the same customer service regarding consumer law elsewhere! That's why I always buy direct from Apple now.

Great Video!! Can you help me with my question please! If i buy an apple product from England and using it in other country. Lets say in Australia! Am i going to get 6 years under consumer law? I am a bit lost there.

I don’t think you get the 3 years as a student anymore. This only applied to direct purchases from Apple too when it did but Apple care can be added to purchases elsewhere I believe.

What if I wanna get an I pad pro 10.5 rose gold at Best Buy does that count to the warranty

If you resell items a lot, Apple care helps push your item to be more desirable and easier to resell. Something to think about.

Apple give one year warranty not matter who you buy it from new.

However, the second year is under consumer law and only applies to the place of purchase.

So if you brought it from Apple then Apple will cover the repair or replacement. If your brought it from outside Apple then it is the place purchase who should now deal with your issue not Apple.

We get 2 years full garentee in Denmark - applecare is only 3 years, as far as I know you can actually wait and buy Apple Care when your device is 1year 364 days old making the total actually 5 years shy a day, but I really never heard of it making a difference. I’ve always gotten great tech support even on a powerbook that was 10 years old that I actually bought used. I have never paid for Apple Care and don’t usually recomend it to others. I’ve never had a reason to be nervous about geting service, most of my apple devices (and there are alot!), I bought used. Been an Apple user since 1984 

My apple cares covers two cases of accidental damage. So I get a discounted screen replacement etc or could be a brand new device I receive. It’s not just extended priority technical support. Great videos Dave.

As for Tech support Dave, I've always been able to phone Apple and receive help over the phone and I never get AppleCare on my Mac's. I do however buy for my iPhone's as I consider them to be more prone to damage. Every time I've phoned Apple for help with my MacBook or iPad they don't even ask if I have Apple Care, they just help.

I’m aware of the Consumer law in UK, but am I correct in saying it only applies to the Retailer whom you bought it from? Or can you deal directly with the Manufacturer?

Thanks for the video I appreciate the information.
One thing I don’t get though is with the six year law for the U.K. For example, I bought an iPad 2 years ago and after about a year the screen had the problem of a white spot when switched on, I was able to have it replaced through curry’s pc world as luckily I subscribed to their repair warranty as I paid a monthly subscription, however this six year U.K. law policy I could have had that sorted anyway by the sounds of it ?
What I am saying what is the point of taking anyway subscription for an electrical product in the U.K. if you get six years effectively for free ? Anyone ?

Also Apple care is worth considering if you buy iPhone X or MacBook of some form etc due to costs or accidental damage replacement. I didn’t on my base 8 but if I’d have bought and X I would have. Cost of the glass replacement on back is £450 without Apple care! Less so on iMac unless you have kids or pets who might break it!

Definitely worth it for the accidental damage coverage for me.

"No service" issue is found in my iphone 8 plus. This issue is found within just 13 months of using. Not any damages is found. Apple service centre is demanding so much money for replacing it which is so disgusting. They also clearly not saying that what exactly happened with my device they just said it's a fault in somewhere the logic board. It seems like same cases as in iphone 7 was found. Complained many times but nobody is listening. Am I eligible for free replacement under consumer law. I'm from India.

Not worth it for me. My ipad ended up breaking out of warranty.
If I bought an iMac then yeah I’d get warranty but with my iPad I don’t get apple care. I take care of my ipad for 3/4 years. My old one is in perfect condition the only problem was the overheating.

Considering the fact that outside the UK, consumer law ( only 2 years for electronic devices ) is just rubbish ( only if you can prove that the fault was there at the time of purchase ) and the 17% failing rates of Macbooks, the purchase of an extended warranty seems more and more logic. But 6 years of coverage is just insane

I have a question I recently bought the 55” Sony xe900 tv and have connected to my av system pioneer vsx 832 which scales up to 4K. I currently run a WD player and Xbox one. If I was to purchase an Xbox one x as a replacement for the Xbox and run through the av system will it compromise the hdr 10 ?
