replacing the battery in a MacBook Pro is about $250... that being said, getting apple care+ for 3 years and having your battery hit 80% health, they will replace that battery without any deductible. The price alone offsets the apple care+ cost. If you plan on keeping the MacBook for 3+ years, that warranty will pay itself if you need to replace the battery 3 years later.

For those of us who travel (soon!), AppleCare+ is invaluable, since the coverage is worldwide. So, if you're in Singapore and the screen is damaged, call Apple and they will direct you to the nearest repair location. If you're in a remote area, they will pay priority shipping both ways, and I've even heard of them cross-shipping a refurb so you don't have to wait for the return of your device.

I bought apple care for my old 2011 MBP. I had the motherboard fail 3 times due to faulty solder on the GPU and I had the battery replaced as well. Each board replacement was over $900Aud. The last replacement was actually after apple care had expired however they replaced it as a good will gesture for having had Apple Care and this being a reoccurring fault. Short answer is it paid for itself many times over.

If you're someone who takes good care of their tech like I do, I would personally only recommend getting it for the first 6 months to a year to cover any manufacturer defects that take a while to develop.

As far as warranties go I agree that Applecare+ is one of the best. That being said I treat as I do all warranties. If you can afford to live without it or you can afford to replace it immediately (without debt) if you can’t live without it don’t get the warranty. Statistically you are more likely to save money over time. That’s easy to determine as Apple or any company with extended warranties has done the math and determined the money you spend on the warranty should be less than the average coverage cost. Of course if you use it one time for you personally it will probably have come out ahead but over years and many devices odds are you’ll lose money. Although it depends on the value of your peace of mind.
From personal experience I’ve probably had 30 apple devices between my wife and I over the past decade and we would have had zero claims. If we bought apples warranty we probably would have spend more than a new 16” MacBook pro on all them combined.

I have had very good luck with my older MBPs, but with the new chip and monitor design, I have decided to add it before the 60 days are up on my new 14" MBP. I like your reasoning for the 3 years, but not sure if I can swing the full amount right now.

good advice thanks on my 2017 15" MBP the 2nd week the screen was defective, apple fixed it, a year or so later the screen had the same problem and apple care plus Took care of it but after the 3 years were up, the screen went dead I payed 700 hundred dollars for a new screen, I up in the air about buying the new Mac book air 14" with the m1 but I enjoyed the larger screen, the good audio and the extra power I had with the MBP 2017. so far it hasn't blinked out so I feel good about my decision😉 oh yeah they also replaced the battery

i'm a HP zbook user. HP has got a few extended warranty plans. One of them that I always get is a one time fee for 5 years onsite within 48 hours repair globally.

I've already bough 3rd party accidental damage protection for the first year. I'm now thinking of buying AC+ for my 13" MacBook primarily for the 2 years of additional warranty it provides. I' not a big Apple user, but have had great experience with their support in the past

I had the touch screen on my ipad pro go out after it was 5 months old (1 month before my apple care ran out), and they gave me a brand new one.
I certainly would have been pissed if my brand new ipad crapped out and they forced me to pay for it.

Also I've had to replace the hard drive on my imac as well.

My 22 years old IBM W520 did not had any problem even after I dropped it twice from table height. On the other hand, a MSI I got in 2018 died 15months after purchase, gpu gone and it was soldered with mb, so it was a total lost. (well, I was able to recup the ram, SSD and sold the screen on eBay to get some money back). I miss the old days when things were made to last.

For an individual customer AppleCare might make sense but not for a business. I have worked in a medium sized company (about 40 Macs) for 15 years and there was never a case where AppleCare would have saved anything. All the Macs that were faulty within the three year period AppleCare would have been applicable broke within the first year. So they were covered under the regular warranty.

I think if you are buying a decked out mbp laptop, it makes perfect sense.

But if you bought the base model maybe not. AC+ for base model is 10-15% of the value of the laptop for the for first 3yrs.

AC+ for decked out laptop is about 5-7% for the first 3yrs.

The probability is you most likely just replacement battery 🔋 ($200) in the first 3yrs, but display replacement, etc … more likely 5-7yrs down the road. So you end up paying for AC+ end up costing you about the same or more.

5-7yrs of AC+ coverage will cost you $500-800 ($100/yr after 3yrs). Laws of probability

The best argument for AC+ is if you use it professionally and travel a lot.

You don’t want to muck around local repair shops. Just drop by apple and they will give you a replacement laptop while their service your computer.

That makes perfect sense why you should get AC+. Time is money and you can’t afford to run a business or make your living without your laptop.

AC+ is definitely worth it in that instance and it’s a tax right off

I haven't had my m3 MacBook Pro for 30 days and the track pad is already cracked. I had purchased apple care when I got it and am so glad I did. The only downside is having to drive almost an hour to the store and leave my MacBook there for a couple days and have to go back and pick it up. And can't forget the extra $100 I'll have to spend.

As someone with the new M1 Pro, let's put it this way. "Apple Care, or Apple Don't Care".
The cost of repair out of AppleCare is insane if you crack your screen or have other damage. It's worth the peace of mind honestly. Apple systems can be hard to repair and 3rd party shops may not have official parts.

The thing that kind of sucks about it is that it overlaps our included one year warranty. So, you are paying for AppleCare+ even during the normal manufacture one year warranty period because they only give you 60 days to purchase it from the date of purchase.

Any MBP I have ever purchased, I have always gotten AppleCare. Same with for my iPads and iPhones. Well worth the investment.

Apple stands behind their stuff better than most companies. They have fixed things for me that were known issues that weren't even under warranty. Where Apple Care may make sense if you think you may damage your device.

Does Apple Care Plus replace the logic board if the macbook just stops working for any reason other than accident?

I got AC+ for this new MPB 16'' but only because this is a 1st-gen device. If it would be 2nd or 3rd gen, I would not get AC+.
