Blender Tutorial: Creating Custom Nodes

preview_player

Blender allows you to create your own custom nodes, made from various default nodes working together. These nodes groups are incredibly powerful and they have a variety of uses. In this video, I'll show you how to create your own custom nodes in Blender. I'll also give you some examples of how node groups can be used, and how to implement them into your workflow.

I have made node groups before, but I had no idea that node frames existed. Wow. So, thanks for that!

7:18 A slightly quicker way to create the new input would be to drag from the hollow circle in the Group Input node to the terminal you want to connect the input to. That also gives it the right type, corresponding to the connected terminal.

4:40 Also worth mentioning, there is only a single copy of the node group definition in the document, regardless of how many instances you make. So if you make any changes inside the node group, they will take effect everywhere you’ve used that node group.

No one seems to mention the Node Presets add on that automatically reads node groups from a folder so you don't need to constantly append nodes

You can set the default values in the 'N' menu so you don't need a frame.

Hi, one the Node input, you press N, to open Node/ interface. and then you click Inputs, plus sign. I dont have that in my Nodes aria. I have made the group. I pressed tab. I see the Group input. there is no "Interface"

Of it's a group, then you can find it under groups unless it's a custom node. A custom node is something different actually

Is it possible to add outputs to the principled BSDF shader so I don't have to go into the shader editor? So all the required adjustments can be played around with in the properties tab?

Hi, I have a question ...so I was using the MixRGB node in the group so how can change the blending mode? Is it possible to bring that as an input option changeable!!

I'm updating the addon node preset, I've added functionality of edit linked addon so we can automaczlly save node groups to template blend files.

Ps wouldn't it be useful to add that frame inside the node group. Thy way when you append it, you also know what it does

how do i save the node so i can append it later?

Maybe this has been sorted by now, but couldn't they add a feature for custom node groups where you set the 'standard' settings for it, and then can "alt-R" back to it the way you would with a bone rotation?
