Also, ensure that your objects are UV unwrapped.

Thank you so much for this! Too many 45-minute videos for a couple button presses. What a breath of fresh air!

IF YOU CANT GET THE NORMAL TO SHOW UP AFTER BAKING:

Make sure your influence space is changed from "Tangent" to "Object". Works on 3.6+. Maybe earlier versions idk. It took me 2 hours to figure this out. Now you know.

Hey there, i followed your instructions but sadly i can't make it work, i get the normal map all blue with no textures and no matter how much with the extrution and ray options i dont get nothing... i tryed selecting the objects in different order and i get a normal map with the flat sides of the low poly mesh... i've watched like 10 different tutorials... maybe you could help me out? or maybe the comment section can help me? thanks a lot.

Thank you for this tutorial. It made the whole process of trying to figure out normal map baking a lot easier!

If you get your flat purple texture but nothing else, it’s because you’re using the meshes wrong. A flat plane isn’t gonna take the information from a humanoid shape, you have to use another humanoid shape to achieve your normals. Hope that makes sense

Very concise tutorial! In this case you can probably either give some random height variation, or tile that one part and give it random strength based on which tile it's looking at (input rounded texture coords into white noise texture to get a random number you can use) if you want to go beyond the scope of the one minute- that would really help avoid tiling patterns. Otherwise having the same pattern is just taking up 400x more space.
