To think she was 8 years old when Titanic sank, been 2 two world wars, and been around for all the technology to come through. Crazy what she has seen.

My grandma was born in 1924. She had seen the Second World War, had seen men from our country being forcefully drafted to fight for Britain, been married at the age of 12, had seen the death of her husband and raised her 6 children all by herself. She had seen our country gaining independence from the British Empire, had seen the rapid development in technology, had stepped into the 21st century and seen a global pandemic.
She also saw all her children move out of her house in the village one by one in search of jobs and set up their own families in cities. She tended to her guava trees and little mustard crops in front of the house her husband had built. She would make delicious food for her grandchildren and children whenever they would come to visit, a bright smile on her face. She saw the death of her two daughters, and all her friends, and became a great-grandma to her two great-grandchildren. She was the sweetest soul on the planet, whose biggest wish was for all the girls in the family to be properly educated, something which she had never had the chance to experience. She left this world in 2021, and although I didn't get to say a proper goodbye, I will forever love you Grandma, fly high ❤️❤️

No one can tell her how treacherous their journey to school was. That is an achievement by itself.

R.I.P Kane Tanaka. It’s really sad she died but at least she got the title of Worlds Oldest Person and she would be glad to know it’s going to a nice woman (Lucille Randon) at least. I wish both of them the best.

Imagine being 40 years old in 1944 when WWII hasn't even ended just yet and then thinking you probably have around 30 to 40 years left in you.

You'd never imagine reaching the 2000s never mind 2022. Very impressive.

That's one tough old woman. Let's hope she lives as long as the previous holder of the record. Both are wonderful

Kane Tanaka was so beautiful in her youth but I can't help but think that despite most of us dreaming we could live on Earth for as long as we can, it's sad to think these women would have seen the deaths of each friend and a lot of close family they had. While they lived longer on Earth than most, it's like everyone they knew left.

My grandma is 94 years old and she was an 11 year old orphan in ww2. She played the accordion for the soldier’s coming home in Germany. She traveled the word when she was young teaching English to the less fortunate having five children along the way. Now she is staying with me and my family and she is the funniest, stubbornness and strongest person I know. Along the way she has found her birth family and sister. She has Alzheimer’s and dementia so she is loosing her memory of us but she doesn’t let her diagnosis stop her. I have a feeling she might be the oldest living person soon 🤫🙂

It is surprising that at the end of the Pacific War, she was still in his forties. A level of longevity that makes a nursing home look like kindergarten.

Being the oldest person alive means that everyone that was alive the moment you are born has died.
