I was fortunate to have parents who were together for 71 years before my Dad's passing at 95. He was the earliest to pass in his family. His sister lived to be 97. And all his aunts and uncles lived to be 99 to 102. My Mom passed at 99. My great grandparents were together for 70 years!

I'm 73 and I've got a terminal illness and although I'm up, mobile and not in pain my issue is debilitating and I'm already tired of it. That's fine, I damned sure don't want to live to be as old as these folks.

My grandmother died with her 104th birthday only a few days away. She milked cows (by hand-no machines) until she was 90 and cooked on a wood stove and walked 2 miles to a "side" job-cooking at a restaurant in town- until in her 80's. When she was born (in Ireland) there were no cars and the farming they did hadn't changed in thousands of years...she lived to see the first man on the moon and the computer age just beginning.

My Grandmother lived into her nineties & she swore by a glass of sherry in the afternoon! She thought it had iron in it & helped her keep strong but her doctor said that sherry does not have much iron in it at all but that we should not tell her that. Nan continued to enjoy her glass of sherry to the end.

My paternal grandmother died in 2019, she was 104 years old. My maternal great-grandmother died in 1981, she was 96. I was 3 at the time and unfortunately, I never met her. But I heard a lot of wonderful things about my maternal great-grandmother.

My dad lived to be 90 years old and got sick. He died in 2018. My mother’s sister is 96. She is still walking around and still cooking her own meals. She loves along and she calls when she is ready to go shopping at the store. 🎉 ❤
