Growing figs is easier than you think #gardening #zone8a

I think figs might be one of the weirdest but tastiest “fruits”.

1. Figs are technically inverted flowers - the trees don’t flower first and set fruit after pollination like typically fruit trees. If you haven’t looked up how figs are pollinated… I’ll leave that to you to google 😜 — honestly it creeps me out just thinking about it.

2. Fig fruits unlike apples/pears/stone fruit aren’t prone to any fungal disease like brown rot, and as such don’t require spraying. Voles seem to love their roots and you have to watch out for ambrosia beetle damage, but otherwise — fig trees are worry free

3. Figs are hardy in zones 7-11. If you live in a colder climate, definitely check out @monroviaplants fignominal fig. It’s a true dwarf fig that can be grown on your patio and brought in over winter — it stays under 30” tall and wide!

Actually they are inflorescences with multiple small male, female and sterile female flowers present in a cup like structure which later on closes and ripens to fully develop into a fig 😊

I was shocked how easy the grow. I bought a fig tree on a whim and even still as a lil guy it has over 10 figs coming in already.
