This helps me a lot. I bought small Clementine tree and planted directly to the ground it looks healthy but so many side leaves coming down I guess I need to prune them I learned from you. Thanks so much! So except the middle one just keep pruning side downward leaves until it grows up!

I wish we still had normal winters here in Louisiana. My in-ground trees get pruned every year from intense cold. This used to be a once or twice in a decade thing but now we can expect low teens every year and single digits at least every other year. So far this year our low was 13 degrees but the recent week of 70s & 80s will cause big problems when the cold arrives Thursday. It also made a lot of my winter greens bolt early.

Yours is the first video I've seen on figs, thanks! I'm very interested in growing a couple in pots, hadn't a clue where to start. I'll keep watching.

I’ve enjoyed your videos on citrus in containers, they have helped me grow my 11 varieties to a stage to trial before planting 8 in ground. Early this past spring I started my fig journey with 25 varieties to do the same thing. I planned on keeping 12 but that number keeps on growing as I taste the so called “ average “ tasting figs. I’ve upped the number to 17 today after tasting my first LSU Scott’s black, I just knew it would be a cull but it was delicious. I won’t get to taste most of the fru fru figs like Black Madeira, I258, Col de Dame etc… until next year. Careful Scott… they are addictive.

Scott! It's about time you showed figs some love! I repotted a Mission fig I rooted from a cutting last Fall, and It has grown so much that I'm definitely thinking I may have to do some pruning this Fall. It is in a 10 gallon container, but has become top-heavy. What do you think - should I repot this Fall into a 25 gallon container, or should I prune? OR, should I allow it to root bound and treat as a semi-bonsai?

I also bought two fig trees I didn’t use a pot I directly plant on the ground. They look healthy leaves but how can prune them?

Hi! A nice lady gave me a fig plant in a pot that she had grafted from her tree a couple of months ago. Because it is newly planted, I didn't do anything to it except put it where it gets a lot of sun in my yard and water it, and it's growing very well. I'm wondering if I should take it in the house during the cold season or just keep it out where it is right now? I don't want it to die. I value your expertise. Thanks in advance!

Hi Scott! I'm in GA zone 8b formerly 8a. This is my first year growing figs. I'm over wintering thèm inside my shed. How often should I water them? I also was gifted 9 fig cuttings that I'm growing inside my house. Hopefully, I will get the majority, if not all of them, to take root. The only cutting I've ever been successful at rooting is a lemon cutting.

You will never grow many figs on a tree in a pot. Just enough for a handful. In order to can fig preserves the tree must be in the ground.
